I dunno... seems really odd to me too. I never had this pull-off thing come up with the Full Circle. It doesn't make sense to me that it has to do with the bridge/strings setup since they're both just picking up vibrations from the bridge. Maybe one of the luthiers know. :help:

hdiddy, I think maybe what I meant to say in my previous post was that for me ghost notes seem to come out overemphasized with this p/u. The really low end of the ghost notes get kinda boosted out of proportion somehow, and it's so bassy that it's not very ... well, percussive anymore. I still think maybe it's somethin' with bridge mounted piezos.

Anywho, ghost notes, not pull offs. That thar's what I wuz meanin' to say.

After reading these post, I decided to install my RS that I've had for a month, but didn't feel like doing all the filing. Well I filed both the bridge and the p/u, and got a good fit. I tried it with the R side down and it's OK. I have a Full Circle, and I'm on the second one as the wires seem to short after so long. I turn the RS so the R is facing up, not expecting to hear anything I would like and...!!! I'm almost in tears with the delight at how great this thing sounds. Seriously, I said a loud #%&* in shock. Then I compared my FS and the FS sounds alright, but the RS sneeks up on you before you realize it's working as it sound like my bass, with punch and warmth. This is just running into my clarus. Normally I use a DTar Solstice as a pre, but it's not necesary with RS.

I'm hoping I don't have to do that - I bought it mail order from Brent Norton - I haven't tried it with an amp yet - just into my mixing desk at home...?

Too busy with Xmas stuff at the moment - but maybe it won't be so noticable with the amp?

You might hear NO HUM with an amp.

Bruce, someone on RABB.com had the same problem. Eric took it back and sent them a new one no problem. Upton's all about customer service. Now and then a bad one gets through, but when you get a good one, it's amazing!

Make sure that you tell the guy at the post office that you are returning an item for repair, i did that 2 times, i had to sign a little formulary and when the new item arrived i didnt have to pay taxes again.
About paying the shipping to the States, c'mon Bruce, its a small thing, cant be that much, better than keep a pickup that might be defective.

I don't know about Bruce's particular situation, but I know that I delayed sending mine back in spite of knowing there was a problem with it - and I live in the States! Man, when this pickup is working it sounds so good and the way it fit was just perfect. I didn't want to chance returning it and having it the new one not fit was well or generally not sound as good. Ultimately I did return it (thanks Eric) and although the technical problem seems solved, I am still trying to figure out if the replacement fits and sounds as good.

Of course the repalcement doesn't have the serious humming issue, but what I've found with both of them is that the RS is sensitive to interference and questionable stage wiring. I play blues, so you can imagine I play on some stages where the wiring wasn't done by union contractors if you know what I mean. This pickup seems to hate that. It seems that feedback resistance goes down, and frantic knob-twiddling goes up in those conditions.

On the other hand most nights the power is clean and interference is low, this pickup is magic -- set the EQ straight up, plug it in, turn up as loud as you need to be, and play with confidence that the tone is in your fingers.

I just got an RS (because of this thread)- i wasnt happy with the K&K, and this sounds great.. i havent had time to experiment much so i think it will get even better with placement (right now the lower notes are much stronger than the mid/high register)


my patch cord would not fit well into the connection however.. with minimal movement, even just sitting vertically, it will fall right out of the jack, and this happened on the gig unfortunately. It is a planet waves cord with the kill switch on it that i like.. never had a problem with this cord on any other pickup or EB.. it wont 'snap' in and stay in place.. is this an unusually shallow connection? i guess i'll have to get some different cables to try it out..

This is a characteristic of the particular connector used for the RS. I would suggest trying a different cable or just replacing the connector which is simply an RCA-phono jack to 1/4'' phone jack.

I have not seen one of these planet waves cords before, but had a customer have a similar problem with it. His planet waves cord actually damaged the connector to the point where the internal points of the RS adaptor broke.

Can you tell me what it so different about these planet waves plugs?
