Unironically, rubber band behind the balls tight enough to keep it on but not so tight you get an extra octave on your range. Don't ask me how I know.

Same basic place, just a bit higher....you'll find that the weight off of your shoulders is much more comfortable when your bass is on a stand......

Maybe during a song you can ask some of the girls in the crowd if they want to play ring toss for free beer...
