Richest bassist?

holy feck. you guys still haven't moved this thread anywhere worthwhile in 18 pages?

Richest - money would be Macca, but not from his playing

who from playing? What about classical orchestra players. I bet some of them bring in $200K a year, and have time to play elsewhere...

of course royalties and performance and this and that when it's down to the music biz puts sting up there too, but the BASS PLAYER rather than the MULTI-TALENTED SONGWRITER would take Macca and Sting out of the running.

So what about Phil Lesh?
he's been touring off and on since '65, playing at least a hundred shows a year (maybe not this year) and Grateful Dead Productions is a huge business.

Deadheads spawned their own economy that spread around the USA. There's loads of money because Phil kept droppin' bombs through the '80's and '90's

Phil has more directly affected more people than Macca or Sting - just by the sheer volume of people at GD concerts...now some of that might have been the acid - but he affected the affected as well as the sober and helped give thousands of people jobs that wouldn't have much opportunity otherwise.

So in many ways, this guy is the richest bassist - but maybe not to an accountant.

richest bassist? hmmmmmmmm...

that would be me, of course...:)

oh no not in monetary terms...just in terms of how blessed I am...
beautiful wife, 3 awesome kids with one on the way....a comfortable home...living in an awesome place like tropical queensland...a solid job with good folks to work with...great friends...

I'm rich BEYOND measure! :)

I feel the same way, money couldn't buy how blessed I am!

this thread is hilarious :D

that's kind of touching about you family guys... damn you, with your fulfilled lives! nah congrats and all.

back on topic - it's Macca, who else would it be? we're talking bass players and he was one of them in that band. and regardless of his lucrative songwriting credits, yes, he is a phenomenally talented BASS player - i had my doubts too til i listened.

(Phil Lesh, seriously? he probably blew it all on frisbees and bean bags. god damn hippies.)

EDIT late merry christmas you bass playing maniacs ;)

Sir Paul McCartney is the most successful musician and composer in the history of pop music, with sixty gold discs, over 100 million single sales, and a net worth of $800 million. McCartney was born and raised in Liverpool, England, and began writing songs in his early teens. He met John Lennon and the Quarrymen at the age of fifteen; he later joined the band, which was re-named The Beatles.

Sting

Sting has an estimated net worth of $290 million. Sting was born Gordon Matthew Sumner on October 2, 1951 in Wallsend, England. He is known for being a British musician, activist, philanthropist, and actor

Maybe not in 2008, but he is now!!

No Sir Paul in Forbes mag article states he had to pay his Ex Mills 60 million of his 700 million so that was real numbers he had to give in a court of law in a divorce settlement. Forbes has him as 20th riches on their list

I will add

Paul McCartney

Earnings
$57 M As of May 2012 so maybe closer to 800 million by now

HOLD ON!

Define richest bassist.

Is that session player? Solo artist? or Band bass player?

Session player: Maybe John Pena

Solo Artist: Probably Sting

Bass player in a band: Maybe Robert Trujillo. His payment at sign up with Metallica was $1 million dollars, and he hadn't even played his first show. That was just after his audition!

And Trujillo owns the bass of doom... that thing alone must increase value by the day.
