Rickenbacker 4003 neck too thick?

whattaya think, i don't really play alot of basses, usually stick to my 07 epi thunderbird, i was wondering how the neck thickness compares to that? how is the neck all around, maybe on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being giant brick and 10 being like. i dunno. good. lol just leave comments thx.

I have a 4003. The neck is nice but it doesn't think. It does what I tell it to do.

A rickenbacker neck will be thicker at the nut a narrower at the 20th fret

The thickness of Rick necks varied during production years. I have a '78 3001 that's real P-bass like, a '74 4001 that's very thin, & a '03 4003 that's a little on the fat side.

It has varied over the years. My 74 is also quite thin. I've been told the recently made ones got thin again. Theres actually a Rickenbacker neck profile measurement database out there.

I've got a 2010 Ric 4003 and I have small hands and I think the neck is nice and not very thick at all. It feels smooth and fast to me. I have a 2001 '57 Fender P-Bass RI and that neck is THICK. Once I got my Ric, I just have ingored the P. In fact, I may put it up for sale on here real soon as I might be able to get a good deal on a Sterling Classic.

The beauty of the Ric neck is that it doesn't get a whole lot wider as you move up the fretboard, as opposed to how a Fender neck does. The double cutaways also give you full access at the 20th fret. And the sound is totally unique.

The only thin-necked Rics I've played have been the old ones. The newer ones, even from 2007 forward are pretty thick. Much more P bass-ish than J bass-ish. Wider rather than rounder though, if that makes sense. I've played a few 70's Rics that had necks almost as thin as a Geddy jazz.

I have an 06, while around the first fret it's pretty damned thick, it thins out real fast. Around the seventh fret it's nice and thin.

i bought a new jetglo 4003 about six weeks ago. i've owned 9 rics over the years (a '66, a '72, a '73, a '74, a '78, an '07, an '83 and my current '91 V63 and the new 4003. the new 4003 has the thinnest neck out of all of them that i've owned, and by quite a bit. i love it & i think that its the best playing one that i've ever had.

Neck thickness varies, even within the same year model. Best to try before buying.

Hello. I found no info about fretboard's width at the last, 20th fret. Can anyone tell it please? If possible in cm.

My 4003 neck is a little thick compared to my old 4001 but the narrow fretboard makes up for that. When I'm warmed up I can jump back and forth from my Ric to my Jazz no probs.
