Rickenbacker 'getting outed'

What are you - some sort of anti-Rickite.? Most of the Rick owners are like Don Rickles. They originally wanted to name it the Rickles Bass but that was too "Hollywood" so they came up with the name "Rickenbacher" after Orville instead.

Post like this are like tapping the bee hive with a stick and your nether regions coated with honey ala Studebacker Hoch. I should know. I did the same a few weeks ago when the TB search engine failed me as well.

So lets save the hate for something more deserving ...like slap or John Mayer or .....

I remember it was 1980 and I drove across the state to Detroit Michigan because a music store I called had a slightly used 1978 4001 white with black pickguard. I bought it for $375. up until that time I had been playing in a band using a Gibson RD Artist with the Moog electronics, huge sound especially with the Rotosound strings. well I strung up the ric with rotos and in no time wore the poopie out of the frets. Living in Kalamazoo with Gibson factory being there I bought the RD for $150 it was a factory second (you could get amazing deals back then) Guitar player in that band bought a 2nd Gibson curved top SG for $175 one of only like 4 made he still owns it. Good memories!

Put RotoSound Swing Bass strings on any bass and it's gonna sound like a Rickenbacker.............humm, or is the Ric gonna sound like any other bass?..........humm or a Jazz Bass...........humm or a whatever bass?

I find it so totally silly how many Rush songs that we thought was a Ric was actually a J. (We've heard that the Jazz Bass and not the Ric was used on some of The Beatles White album.)

Does it really matter?

If anything, we are shown how strings are the most important part of "sound".

Play whatever you like. Even a wash tub bass can sound decent.

(28 seconds long)

Every musician (from bar band guys to actual touring bands) that I've told that I own a Rick to responds with things like "those are great sounding basses", "really cool basses", things like that. It seems the majority of Rick haters are here on TB, or on YouTube like that guy...:rollno:

I love Rics. I don't happen to own one, but they are definitely cool basses. I also like their guitars a lot. As I said above, Ric basses look and sound great. I don't love how they play (the ergonomics are weird to me) and they are a pain to adjust/maintain and that's why I play other stuff ... but it's certainly no knock on the product. I have heard that the customer service at Rickenbacker is substandard, but I have no personal experience with that.

Sorry if this has been posted before ... but this guys has some opinions :roflmao:
(please note I don't share them, I just found this hilarious)

I'm no fan of ricks, to put it mildly, but the guy in the video is unlistenable. He could learn a thing or two from Ben Shapiro about keeping up the pace. I fast forwarded to 3.5 minutes and he seemed to be getting to the point... I've not got all day to watch a 15 minute video with two minutes of information in it.

BTW, I think he's stoned or something. It's like watching an 8 year old that just got up and hasn't had his Wheaties yet.
