Rickenbacker 'getting outed'

It's an amusing video, but way to long. I hate long "thoughtful" pauses and don't have 15 minutes to watch a video that should be five minutes.

It's the same reason I hate when "news" outlets like CNN have so many "video" news articles... they take forever and I can absorb the same information in a fraction of the time reading, because I can read much faster than I can watch. If it's video AND text news articles, I'll read it. If it's just video, well, no way-- not gonna waste my time (I reserve my time wasting for TB discussions). I took the time to learn how to read, now I make up for the time spent learning to read by doing it, instead of watching videos.

But yeah, the guy is funny, the 20% of the time when he is actually talking and also not repeating himself.

I'm no fan of ricks, to put it mildly, but the guy in the video is unlistenable. He could learn a thing or two from Ben Shapiro about keeping up the pace. I fast forwarded to 3.5 minutes and he seemed to be getting to the point... I've not got all day to watch a 15 minute video with two minutes of information in it.

BTW, I think he's stoned or something. It's like watching an 8 year old that just got up and hasn't had his Wheaties yet.
hopefully that's the only thing he'll learn from Ben Shapiro ;)

I would buy a Ric in a heartbeat if I could find a neck profile I liked. Nothing sounds like a Ric. This is from a guy that plays only Fender MIJ Jazz necks (well one MIJ P neck) and is an ardent admirer of Fender's simple, easy to repair and adjust construction methodology.

I only have experience with the older ones similar to that in the video and my brother in law has one of the newer ones whose headstock he proceeded to introduce to a fast moving ceiling fan within seconds of unboxing it. I found the older one uncomfortable and heavy and the only time I spent with the newer one was when my brother in law asked me to fix his pickup (the plastic cover had collapsed onto the strings...all I had to do was remove the cover). I can’t speak to them other than that. That’s my contribution to this thread. Enjoy.

I might be the only person here that has actually met Dave. As I mentioned a few pages back, I found him to be friendly, open and funny. What you see on the video is what you get face to face. Personally, I find him to be blunt, but funny. He has a sideways approach to looking at things, which personally, I find rather appealing in the world we live in.

I rarely pile on to a post with 209 previous responses, but felt compelled to add:

Rickenbacker has some manufacturing processes that are different than other folks making instruments. Are some of their construction techniques less robust?, Probably. Are they unfit for purpose? - I leave that testimony to the popularity of the brand and instruments they sell.

I’ve never owned a Ric, but tried one out in a store once a while back. They’re pretty comfortable to play and have a very distinct sound that makes them what they are.

Variety is the spice of life.. I play fender p and j’s, MusicMan and Lakland 4494. I find something different about playing a Ric in Prog band BUT I went through trying 6 before s found one I liked.

Then I had to do the reverse wind reverse polarity mod to kill the noise at gigs. But all in all it gets the most complements in sound and looks.

I find it appealing in real life. I hate it in youtube videos. I use them a lot to get information about obscure stuff like fixing pushrods in a rider mower. I spend a lot of time fast forwarding and cutting to the chase on many of those videos.

When I click on a video for fun, that's different. Maybe that's how I need to look at this one. :)

He surely wouldn't be the first guy to get all his pathos out via his art so he can be warm and kind in every other area of his life.

Recognizing that Dave is an artist is the first step.

The next step is "paying dues" on the World of Fun Stuff Boat.

All are invited to explore the liberation that is possible through Davology.

End of recruitment pitch.
