He might have a few weird ideas or ways to express his thoughts, but he's no dummy.
It's to mop up the cheese so he can squeeze out a few more drops for an Audioslave reunion, or something.
I wasn't calling him dumb. Just pointing out his tin foil hat.
That is actually the Levy's MSS2-4, which is 4 1/2" inches wife. I have a couple of them myself. He was using custom Levy's straps that were even wider, but he switched to the MSS2-4 years ago.
EDIT: May have to take that back. I see a couple MSS2-4's on some of his basses there, but on the Music Man, it does look like it might be an MSS-17.
I've enjoyed his music, but never knew much about the guy at all. From this rig rundown I find he's an enthusiastic musician and gear nut, and apparently does some deep-thinking and extrapolations of ideas that inform his art.
I don't think a minute-snippet into his thought process is enough to judge him as a space cadet.

What a good bloke, I've never seen him interviewed before. Anytime I see anyone that enthusiastic about what they're doing it makes me want to check it out!
I read an interview years ago from another bass player, and can't remember who. He tried to get insight on his distortion pedal he made. No go!! He has been using it since Rage. I agree, such passion for what he is doing. I love the Burnt Maple Necks.
Cool. After all these years and all the albums I own with TC on bass, I've never actually heard or read and interview with him. Love his attitude and enthusiasm (and his gear).
Maybe just cables. Marcus Miller actually does the same thing. Just makes the board look cleaner
It's a cool idea to make a distortion out of a wah when you think about it. With the frequency sweep of a wah and all. I think someone actually made a parked wah pedal at some point where you could dial in the sweep with a knob instead of a rocker. I'm guessing it sort of works as a lpf and hpf and he just dialed in a wah to a fixed point to get a particular midrange point he likes. I wouldn't be surprised if he got to the point in the wah sweep he liked then soldered it so wouldn't move and put it in a different chassis. I mean really if you look at my b7k for example the switches do that sort of thing but are fixed points instead of a sweep like a wah.
I love how the tone towels get a lot of attention; pretty sure they are just towels for wiping sweat. Great place to hide them at the start of a gig, which is the setting for the interview.
Regarding the big box. I don't really care to know what's in it - it's his and I'm really glad he's still playing his signature sound that I enjoy!

He climbed to the top of the set at the MTV Music Awards one year and sat there because he was mad that Rage lost the award they were nominated for. He's an intelligent space cadet, but he's a space cadet for sure.
Well considering he's a Self professed conspiracy theorist who doesn't believe ISIS actually exists, doesn't believe in the moon landing, and believes all the ISIS beheading videos are fake it's not too much of a stretch

Come on guys.... I've been hanging with musicians for almost 40 years and one thing I am confident of is that musicians are wired differently than non-musicians. Tim is just further out on one end of the spectrum.

He definitely is a bit out there. Dude believes a lot of bizarre conspiracies, such as the moon landing being faked.
Also I definitely rolled my eyes at the whole "feedback is like war and I'm sending bombs" or whatever the hell he was on about for a minute.
