I was going to say something about how all of you bashing someone for seeing the world differently need to open your minds to the possibilities you simply choose not to consider. Then I remembered this is a forum full of bass players.

Rig Rundown: Tim Commerford

Or maybe we're a little more grounded in reality. Most of the time, what you see IS real.
Tim has influenced me more than any other bass player, first and foremost for his playing, for his tone that is unmatched to this day (that punchy sound of "People of the Sun" for example - truly mind blowing), for his open and crazy mind, and for a strong political point of view.
he was always so secret about his stuff and now seeing him talking that excited about his rig is very refreshing and inspiring. i think he has grown alot as a person and still fights with a strong opinion about this world and stayed true to himself. That guy played all over the world in front of huge crowds and still is a nerd who tries to push the limits with sounds and playing and starts a band from ground up.
I see alot of successfull musicians becoming complete idiots and dickheads. That's not the point with him and that makes him even more a all time heroe for me.
I am really disappointed about that Prophets of Rage thing. The band is still amazing like they have ever been, no doubt about that. But those 2 rappers (i don't even know the name, i guess it's one guy of public enemy and one guy of cypress hill), they lack of power and skills for that rage stuff, it's really embarrassing. There's is nobody like zack for that band, nobody. Zack is the guy who belongs to this band, nobody else. It's so obvious when you see those 2 other guys trying to drop a ratm song.

His A (Prophets of Rage) rig is two SVT 2 Pro, one SVT and a Barefaced Two10, Four10 and Eight10. Unfortunately due to some manufacturing delays at the Eminence factory we couldn't get the drivers for his B rig in time, so the old Ampeg cabs had to go out for the Wakrat rig. He's been using the Barefaced cabs on the studio recordings too.

With all due respect (and I love Rage too), Zack lifted half of his style from Chuck D. Just go listen to It takes a Nation....., or Fear of Black Planet. Prophets of Rage is a Public Enemy song title, and well if you go back and listen to those albums you'll hear where they lifted Fistfull of Steel. PE was as abrasive and politically clever as any Rage lyric.
I'm not saying they bring anywhere near the energy of Zach, but Chuck D is probably the only person worthy of fronting that project. The Cypress Hill is stuff is cheesy nonsense though. I agree there.
I fully agree. PE had great lyrics and i would never disrespect what they have done artistically.
I loved the take on that cypress hill song "how i could just kill a men" I really thought that Prophets of Rage would be a great live experience without zack. But what i heard so far on YT was really dissapointing to me.
I would not hesistate a second to go and see them live if they show up in europe. Seeing that killer band smashing those songs again - priceless for sure.
As a government employee, I can say with some degree of certainty that our government (UK) definitely isn't competent or really evil enough to successfully pull off or keep secret some kind of international conspiracy.
Unless I'm just part of the man trying to feed you lies and control you, of course.
I love Tim's playing and I can deal with his eccentricities, but I'm not a big fan of when players treat parts of their gear like it's top secret stuff. Get over yourselves and help your fans out a little, take it as a compliment.
It never ceases to amaze me just how closed minded people are. You all toot your "I LOVE RAGE!" horns, but completely pass over the point.

We all get to choose our lives, and express ourselves individually as we feel. Maybe opposing something your entire life means that you missed out, maybe it means you were right. To quote a genius philosopher: In the end we all die alone.
Prophets of Rage suck. Rage is not Rage without Zach end of story. You can replace him with anyone else and it doesn't matter. It's like how they continue Alice In Chains except Zach isn't dead.
Love Tim's bass playing. Hate Prophets. It has no balls man, no passion like Zach brought. Dude just doesn't have it.

in his previous side project Future User he had some limited edition vinyl records pressed. There were 2 versions. A red album with some of his blood somehow mixed into the vinyl and a blue album which had his semen mixed in.
So yeah, at least you can't fault him for not having some unique and original ideas and the guts to try them.

Really great interview, I enjoyed it a lot and I wish I could have all those Stingrays for me!! It's nice to see he is diggin on Stingrays again. PROPHETS OF RAGE is sounding good, of course not even close to what RAGE was but I'm thankfull we are able to see those guys live.
It's funny to see how close-minded people who probably haven't achieved anything important in their lives get to criticize such a gifted and inspiring bass player.

I love Timmy C! Such a passion for what he does and crafting his sound. He's exactly like all of us in the TB Amps and Effects forums...a gear nut. The only difference is that he was in one of the most influential hard rock/metal bands of the 90's. If he hung out here he'd get himself into trouble, but something tells me he's a lurker...
I love that he has a super secret pedal that he built himself and won't get into any details about. One of these days he'll spill the beans. We've all been waiting years to find out what it is so I'm cool waiting some more.
I was with you up until AIC. Layne was awesome no doubt about it. Jerry was/is awesome. William does a fantastic job filling in some huge shoes. With Jerry always being the primary songwriter and handling a lot of vocal duties from the very start, all of their stuff post Layne still sounds like AIC.

I have a lot of respect for Tim Commerford as both a bass player and a human being. I think he definitely has tapped into his creative mindset in a way that a lot of musicians probably will never get to. That being said, I can still think the conspiracies he believes in are ludicrous, because they are all highly improbable. You can respect an artist and still disagree with them. But hey what do I know, I'm just a "bass player", right?
I've never understood why Jerry didn't just do the vocals. I get it sounds similar, but without Layne it's not the same to me. I don't like when bands continue on when a member leaves unless it's for the better and the sound changes a bit. To each their own though! I love Jerry's solo stuff. I'm just a hardcore 90's nostalgia type guy. LOL

So was Jules Verne. Read 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and at one point Verne describes the Nautilus' engine and that description bears an uncanny resemblance to the nuclear-powered submarines we have today.
Neither Orwell nor Verne were able to see into the future, yet they made some pretty good predictions, inadvertently or otherwise;
meteorologists don't have the power of seeing into the future, but nonetheless we often rely on their weather predictions.
The vast majority of the Wright brothers' contemporaries thought the Wrights were crazy. Been on a plane lately?
Maggots were long ago used in medicine, but that practice fell by the wayside as it became thought of as antiquated quackery. Hospitals around the world have re-introduced maggots to clean up dead necrotic flesh of patients, since maggots don't eat live flesh, and the patients are getting better and more accurate treatment than a surgeon's scalpel.
I'm not saying TC is right, just that you should keep an open mind and question everything including what you think you know, then make up your own mind.
