Rigs of Doom; Part 4

rig.gif

I do not have any justification for such a rig... yet I covet it so very badly.

Just got these custom made cabs completed from Hex company, running 2 Eminence Kappa Pro 15a's, each. 1000 watts total each cab, tuned to 35hz...amps SVT II and SVT 300 slaved. 600 watts of tube tastiness.

Earthquakingggggggggggg

GAH,....I bet this rig sounds awesome pushed to hell and back. Throw a bass tuned Muff Fuzz in front of it (Earthbound Audio Supercollider,....Fuzzrocious Grey Stache,...or Blackout Effectors Musket v2) and I'm willing to bet it's thunderous. Well Played good sir.

I'm not sure if this qualifies. (Rig O Doom threads used to be a packed with a lot of walls o cabs, 3x SVT 8x10s type stuff) but I just picked up a Tolex era (70's/80's) Kustom 2x15 to add to my Avatar 4x10.

I'm running the SVP-1500 in stereo,...and pushing ~390 watts to each cab (@4ohms). Preamp is a Yamaha PB-1.

I had to bring my pedalboard home for troubleshooting so I have yet to crank it but I am so looking forward to putting my rig through it's paces. Will be pumped up with.....

Had some fun at practice last night...

Ampeg SVT-2-PRO
Emperor 2x15
Crate 4x10 on top of an Ampeg 4x10

Pictured with my heavily modified P Bass, and running with a Tech 21 VT Bass on about 90% of the time and set to a pretty grindy edge.

Sounded great! So much more power than when I run either the pair of 410s or the 215 alone. If I had a bigger car I'd definitely be tempted to gig like this. Unfortunately the 215 is about as much cab as I can get in my car at once.

A. Eddy,

It's a JBL SR4715-X cabinet. Maybe your 2 lb amp could get these 600 watt 2226H speakers moving.

Well it can really move the 14's in my cab (they are 600w each, but JBL wont sell them as a raw driver), so I see no reason it couldn't get a pair of 15's going.
For the record, I do have a peavey 1000x that will deliver a genuine 1400wrms into my bin, but carting it and a preamp around is a serious PITA. It sounds better, and has way more headroom; it's just easier to carry an amp that will fit in your gig bag!

A. Eddy,

I wonder how much different our cabinets sound. My backup amp is an Alembic F2-B preamp and a 1200 watt Carver PM 1.5 power amp. Once you put them in a rack, there's no size difference with the Eden. And maybe a 10 lb weight advantage that doesn't make up the difference compared to all tubes. Actually, running at 8 ohms the Carver puts out 900 watts when the limiter kicks in. I figure the Eden can do 500 watt peaks with a bit of grunge so I really don't notice that much of a difference except when "clean" is important. Most of the time I only use a 1X15 cabinet and still get enough clean power. Also, with one 15" speaker, I can get the Eden to break up at a lower volume level.

Do you find that things get weird at all with mixing 15's and 10's? Also, what are the 15's in the Emperor?

Well, I only played it at that one practice, but it was a pretty mashed together rig. I believe one of the two 410s was ported, the other sealed, and the 215 is ported as well (With Eminence Legend speakers btw).

Since I don't really know what you mean by weird, all I can really say is that it sounded good in the jam room, and that I had to turn my master way down from normal, and I cut the bass as well. That being said, I never really got more than about 8ft away from it, so if you're referring to off-axis response or weird dead zones in the room or whatever, I can't really say. I usually don't pay much attention to all that stuff anyway. I'm more of a plug-in-and-rock kind of guy.

Also, I used to have a Mesa Powerhouse 1200 cab, which is 4x10s and 1x15 in the same cab, which I thought sounded amazing.
