I will always remember how cool he was when I met him! I got paid to help the 1st Ave employees and road crew on the tour they did with Anthrax opening, about 10 years ago IIRC...
Even though I was very explicitly told *not* to bug any of the musicians"for anything" I still brought my disposable camera....
So after helping move tons of gear I see this guy with long black hair playing video game poker with a cig burning and a drink... IT WAS LEMMY!! I thought to myself "This is my chance to meet a god!", so I mustered up my courage and approached him...keep in mind it wasn't even noon yet, as I got within 5 feet I could smell the alcohol!! I tapped him on the shoulder and said something like "excuse me, do you got a minute??", he smirked and said something that I couldn't understand!! I took out the camera and grabbed someone else(they probably rolled their eyes like "who's this dork?" LOL).. I extended my hand to shake it and he grabbed my forearm (!?), so I grabbed his forearm the same way and then he laughed!! Honestly I couldn't really understand him because of his heavy accent, but to a dorky fan that I was he was a complete gentleman and never pulled that rockstar BS...
For years I've been looking for a copy of this, fortunately I found the negatives so I'm gonna have to get this developed at a Walgreens or something....
Pic to left is me and Lemmy, pic on right is me and Charles Benante(developed version below)
I was worried I'd never find it again, but I found these negatives' at my parents house, I'm gonna promptly get it developed and framed as I had the honor of meeting god!!
We lost a giant, an artist, metal warrior, innovator of bass and heavy music today, but I bet he wants to be celebrated rather than mourned!!
RIP Lemmy...
