This is what you are failing to recognize. It doesn't start out as an addiction. It starts out as use. Most everyone has, does, or will use some sort of drug at some point. No one plans on becoming an addict. If you are worried about dying, then sure, never ever under any circumstances, should you use any sort of drug. Hope you don't have to go to the hospital... Also, if you're afraid of dying then don't get into a car. Actually, don't do anything...

OK, Mr. Nomad if you want to get personal I guess that's fine with me. In an extended sense what I meant was it amazes me that drivel like that can drip from a human head and still be able to function.

He's saying, in order to not die from drugs don't put drugs into your system. It's as obvious as cars kill people. If you don't want to die in a car then don't get into a car.

While both are true neither are really that simple as you have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Do you know how many people have become addicts because of something as innocuous as a back surgery?

That's true Nomad, some people do get addicted through legitimate use (by legitimate I mean a medical doctor perscribed it to you) So your point on that is taken.

Again, many people drive cars for their whole lives, die of old age and not have any issues. this isn't the same of drug users, when you use, bad things happen all around.

Do you truly believe cars and drugs carry the EXACT same risks to your health? I really don't believe you do, which is why I find your example of cars invalid.

I remember that thread caused quite a stir.

I'm sympathetic because as a recovered addict I know that addictions are an illness. However, it's a treatable illness that can be overcome and he had plenty of resources at his disposal which makes me somewhat angry. Yet, there's another part of me that really is apathetic because I've become really desensitized to all of the rock star heroin deaths over the years.

Man, I'm really thankful to have been clean and sober for a long time now.

More than you could ever know. Oxycodone is just as addictive as heroin and the withdrawal is just as bad.

Bad things can happen, but not always. Ask any marijuana user if bad things happen. They'll argue that to death...

Seriously? I don't know what his beliefs are but common sense says you can't invalidate an argument because of what you think they think. It's what you can prove not believe. Ask any defense attorney.

Lots of venom in this thread. I'll sidestep and just say this...

In the spring of 1993 I was going through a tough time. Nothing overly bad in hindsight, but I was stressed. I didn't have much money, so buying a cd at the time was actually something of a luxury. I bought "Dirt". I listened to it over and over and over again for about three weeks straight. No tv, no Internet (not that there was one at the time), justnthat album. I loved it and still do. Every time I hear a song from it I now think back to that stressful time with an ironic sense of nostalgia. No favorite track, althogh "Would", "Rooster", "Them Bones" and "Rain when I die" are for some reason the most memorable. I was just starting to play bass, and really dug Starr's bass sound and his playing. I've been an AIC fan ever since, and "Dirt" is one of my favorite albums of all time. While Mike Starr hasn't been in the band for a long time, he will always be THE Alice in Chains bassist (sorry Inez).

I was really sad to hear that he died because his music meant a lot to me at a very special time. I think he was a great musician, and a flawed human just like the rest of us.
