I was hoping someone would post this clip! What a talent. And I didn't know slap guitar was a thing before Roy did it on "The Odd Couple" (2:16 in the clip). The technique probably has a proper name, but I'm callin' it "slap guitar" anyway!

When I was a kid they aired both Soul Train and Hee Haw on the same afternoon, I loved both.

I remember that Odd Couple episode. The "slap guitar" move blew me away. One of the coolest things i had ever seen at the time.

I’m glad I got to see him perform about 15 years ago. It was at the Durham (CT) Fair.
He was great and his band was stacked with Nashville level talent.

I just learned that country virtuoso Roy Clark has passed away. As many of you know, Roy was an incredible musician and enormous talent.

What a loss.

When the word came across my news feed today I was teaching a class of 4th graders. I read the headline and yelled out "Oh no!." Of course the students wanted to know what was wrong. I told them "Roy Clark's died."

"Who?" they asked.

Right away I went to YouTube and pulled up this video. And they got it! Having played open position chords on guitars, they recognized Roy's virtuosity. They were also mesmerized by his folksy sense of humor and showmanship so masterfully conveyed through his perfectly timed facial expressions.

If it hasn't been said already, allow me. I sure hope Roy and Buck are picking and grinning in paradise.

Man, I remember growing up it was Chet Atkins, George Van Eps, and Les Paul, and later on Glen Campbell and Roy Clark who were the guitarists to look up to.
