That 5 string is still one of my favorites...I love that bass.

I am SO happy with my bass now. I just had an ensemble at school and played my bass in passive mode (because the SWR amps at the school are beyond horrible...noisy as all get out)....anyway, the bass sounded so, so good. I never once thought about my sound. That's what I was looking for. The Bart CB's just work.

Aram, I'm not sure that it will happen, but I may be coming to NYC to see my teacher Darren Barrett play at Smoke this weekend. If I can make it down I'll let you know....if I don't than I'll be coming down soon and I'll PM you.

I was just wondering this too. Hopefully Andy will chime in when he has time.

Aram, I've been drooling over that myrtle/mahogany Ristola on LAG's site myself. I thought someone bought it, but it showed up again. -What a great price.

Brian told me the woods combo, pickups, and electronics matched up really well on that bass; he told me it has a very balanced tone from top to bottom. IIRC Andy was very impressed with it's sound as well.

If I only had the scratch! :crying:

Ha, ha! Hey Derwin! What's up man...yeah, I just got back from school and was checking email and such. Honestly man, I am so happy with my bass now. I can run the thing with just a little bass boost and it's right on. I bump the mids up just a touch to solo or when I just want the bass to pop out in the mix a little more....perfect! I've already told Brian that I'm done with experimenting at this point. He knows how to make a bass and I'll just let him make whatever he wants the next time....he knows what I like by now. I'd still like to try some Duncan's but I'm in no rush what-so-ever. Brian can really build 'em!

Hey Andy, I'm glad to hear the Bart CB's did the trick, I'm really happy for you.

I found a local driving job, so I'm training at this point. It's great to finally be home.

The guys I was gigging with when I left are ready to start up again, so I'm really pumped to get my Ristola out in a live setting.

I was going to ask you about the local gig that you mentioned. I'm so glad to hear that you got it. It must be nice to know that you'll be spending more time at home.

Aram, if I do come down it'll be in for the show and out the same night....I have too much work to do this week to hang any longer....which is why I may not make it down at all...I'll let you know.

I suggest to anyone interested in a Ristola to have Brian make you a bass with that wood combo....mahogany/myrtle/ebony board. That's his magic combination for sure. He tried to convince me to go with that for my bass, and as much as I love my bass, I should know to listen to him. It's big, balanced and clear throughout the entire range. My bass in comparison has more punch, less bottom and a very distinct higher midrange that I've never heard from another bass before. Makes for a cool sound.

Hey Eude. Sorry, I haven't been on TB much lately. I got the bass a little while back. I am really in love with the bass. It came out perfectly. The tonal goal was to have a 'best of' of old school and modern. There are certain things that I love about my P basses, and certain things that I love about MTD's etc. I worked with Brian to find what wood and electronics combo would give me what I want in each.

The woods are straight old school---alder body with Brazilian rosewood board. The top is spruce. It is a passive bass with a split 'p' style pickup (in soapbar shape) in the neck and a dual coil in the bridge. They were custom made by Kent Armstrong. The two combined give me the 'best of' that I was going for.

The woodworking is great. A real work of art. Brian builds some fine instruments for sure. I think that they are on par with some of the more higher priced customs out there. It feels comfortable and is very easy to play.

The whole process was extremely smooth. Brian is great to work with. He will spend hours on the phone talking about the specifics. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend working with him.

I went up to Brian's place yesterday to get some work done on my bass (a couple high frets/general cleanup). I played two new basses that are on their way to Spain. Two more knockouts. One six: alder body/maple top/rosewood board/Bart G6 pickups/Nordstrand pre. Sounds like a big, punchy 6 string J bass. The other is an amazing 5 string fretless: mahogany body/myrtle top/ebony board (magic combo!)/Bart quad coils/Glockenklang preamp....I LOVE that bass. Anyone near Brian's Spain dealer, be sure to check them out when they arrive.

On another note, if the Glockenklang pre had a better eq point for the high end it'd be perfect. What a great preamp. The mid and bass eq's are incredible.

Well, I can't believe I ended up here, but I had Brian put some Bart quad coil pickups in my bass some weeks ago.....what can I say? They just work in this particular instrument (anyone need some Bart P4 size CB's?). They balance out the brighter nature of this bass. Truthfully, out of the now three sets of pickups that have been in this bass, the bass now sounds amplified the way that I hear the bass acoustically. Go figure.

Now to try and find the money (while I'm a full time student) to have him build me a chambered fretted 6 and fretless 5.......God help me, but I may have to suck it up and get a wedding/cover gig to do it. :help:

More people need to know about these basses!!!!
