Roadtripping to Austin, TX next week...

Way cool. I just got a really cool vibe on that little strip of Congress. Amy's ice cream across the street, and then some Cuvee cofee from Jo's right there too. Such a neat little corner or Austin. It was great sitting on the patio and enjoying some good food while people watching.

A few episodes of Property Brothers were filmed right up the road at Perla's Seafood too.

They've turned that part of S. Congress into a pretty cool little strip, lots of funky shops, etc. You could spend a while there just walking around looking at stuff.

Little austin trivia. Years ago, S. Congress was where you went to get your hookers and dope. Right down the road from the Capitol (plenty of jons there). :D

It's long since been cleaned up and is a really cool part of what makes Austin cool/funky/weird now.

Casino El Camino on 6th is nice, so is The Jackalope. For good Mexican take a drive to Cedar Park and enjoy Jardin Corona, or at the intersection of I35 and 290 Amaya's Taco Village. Avoid the Salt Lick by the Dell Diamond like the plague; crazy bad BBQ. If you're up for a drive Mueller's in Taylor is fan-freakin-tastic: http://www.louiemuellerbarbecue.com/ If you go I suggest you get there early or you may not get what you want (or anything at all for that matter).

You guys are making me really excited about this trip now. I skimmed through but will take a closer look at all these suggestions when I'm not swamped at work. Thanks so much and keep them comin' :D

My wife and I take a week-and-a-half road trip every Labor Day week and I am hoping this one will be the best yet. :)

I've heard the same thing from people about that Salt Lick, must have a captive clientele from the ball park or something.

The original one down by Camp Ben has been good the couple of times I've had it, though nothing spectacular or "way better" than anywhere else.

Hmm. On this trip we're gonna be haulin' it from Omaha to Oklahoma City on Thursday beginning around noon (and it's about a 7 hour drive) so probably not too much time to stop in KC for long. But thanks for the suggestion, we go down to KC and Lawrence a few times in year. Next time in KC, I will check it out.

I love those signs. Port Aransas is one of my favorite places.

Driftwood is the good Salt Lick. My "good but not spectacular" was always takeout from there....eat in, it's good.

We have 300-400 CL ads for music gear every day. Bring money and leave room in the car. :D

Ya, the Round Rock Salt Lick, like their old location on 360, isn't very good. The original Driftwood location is pretty decent when I don't feel like making the hike down to Lockhart. I always enjoy the drive.

And yes, the musical instruments section of the local CL is very, very bad. At least it makes me do bad things. If you ask my wife. :D

I've been going there a week per month for 15 years for business. I've been fortunate enough to eat at some of the best restaurants in town.

Fine dining:
Roaring Fork - Ridiculous food
Perry's Steakhouse - There Flintstone size pork chop is so good, I ate it twice in the same day.
Truluck's - Stone Crab legs are awesome
Lambert's - (Brunch) All you can eat barbecue and drinks
Uchi - Expensive but well worth it. Voted one of the best sushi restaurants in the country

Have a great time and hope that sheds some light for you and the wife on the fine dining front.
