I'm gonna disagree with this...Although i thought his last album sounded like a demo to me, the 3 previous ones; Pros and Cons, Kaos, and Amused to death were fabulous in my opinion..especially amused to death, that was extremely good..but ymmv...all three were far above any post waters floyd offerings...I will say tho, the pink floyd of the wall, etc..was as good as it gets..and the sum was greater than the parts..

Pros and Cons and ATD were better than Delicate Sound, IMO, but not DB.
Used to agree that these were better than Gilmour solo stuff although over time I've flipped on that.
Agree 100% on Waters last album "Is this the life" though. Unlistenable.

The pink piggy was castrated after Waters left. From music that had something to say about the world, to muzak that adorned many a coffee table and was best suited to improving your shopping experience in Marks and Spencer. Waters was the edge, then it was just pink candy floss.

I just assume that ALL celebrities are narcissistic ******** with tons of emotional baggage and huge, fragile egos.
That way, I'm not disappointed when the vast majority of them actually are.

It’s absolutely one of the best Pink Floyd album if one takes into account that it was not recorded in 1972/1975 but in 2017 (oh my God! .. where did rock go to?) and that it wasn’t even made by the Pink Floyd themselves .. it’s like a jump in the past, even in the way the instruments’ tone has been recorded .. with Gilmour’s musical contribution it may have been turned into a double album gem (who knows) .. alas, we’re in 2021, people are getting old and, in the end, we’re living an overall uninspiring period ... is this the life we really want?

I'm late to the thread but here's some of my thoughts anyway...

PF right now is Gilmore and Mason. Roger quit. You don't quit a company and then expect to advertise on their website for free 30 years later, even if you did develop a large share of that company's popular product. This is unrealistic.

From almost all accounts the abusive spouse analogy is pretty spot on. Sometimes a person's behavior is so bad that reconciliation is impossible. You can't verbally abuse your spouse for years and then expect to show up on the Christmas card after a messy divorce. No matter how remorseful you may be.

Roger is a brilliant songwriter and brilliant at conceptualizing ideas. But like many people of that type he has always failed to appreciate or understand how important the people who make those ideas work are.

Dave seems like a man who can hold a grudge quite well. He also seems to be a great procrastinator. He would have been better off inviting someone into the band permanently who could write lyrics instead of using his girlfriend. That being said, High Hopes is my favorite PF song.

Dave's solo work is dull. Roger's solo work is unlistenable. Rick's solo work from much earlier, what little bit I've heard, is just plain awful. Of all their solo work Syd's is actually the most listenable and I'm not a Barrett fan at all. But together it was magic.

Just read the whole thread. Hmm.

So I'm 49, and as a teen tracked down every bit I could get of everything any of them had a finger in. Loved all of it for what it was. Bought The Final Cut, Radio KAOS and MLoR new, etc etc.

Gotta say I paid absolutely NO attention to any of the drama back then or since. I have to agree with those who express the notion that I just wanted the music. I like the Meddle thru Final Cut years most, but can easily be found enjoying Syd era, post Waters, About Face, ATD....

I just didn't want the music to stop. Like all things, it has.

Guess what? There are other groups. There are other genres. I think I'll be ok.

On a side note, to anyone who is a fan of PF and hasn't heard Les Claypool's Frog Brigade covers, you really might take some time to do so. It's pretty solid! Darn near perfect renditions of some of the Floyd's best stuff...LIVE.
