No offense bro, but your main bass is an Ibanez SR Series. While I like a lot of Ibanez stuff, (and this isn't a knock against Ibanez in any way), the gap is kinda marginal between SX and Ibanez SR. While the Ibby may get the nod, it's not a massacre by any stretch!

I have had 3 basses from Rondo and still have one that I just will absolutely never sell, the SJB75 in natural. When I bought my first one, there was a problem, but Kurt said "no problem", and as another poster said, I had a replacement in a week. Overa year, almost two, and no problems. $159+ shipping, would never be afraid to take it on stage. Verry, very punchy. The body is 3pc ash, but the amazing thing is the pieces are matched so well it takes a while looking up close to be able to tell where the pieces come together. At more than 18" away, it is impossible. I've seen Fender natural finishes on the wall (no knock on Fender, have on of those too), that don't come anywhere close to the match. Yes, they can be hit and miss, but if you miss, Kurt will make it right. And when it is a hit, you'll feel like you stole something, but legally. They can be that good.

It's quite a bit better than any SX I've ever played, probably partially due to the fact that I had it set up very well, but the fact remains that I've yet to find anything in its price range to match it. The Brices and SXes I've tried have generally had shoddy electronics, dead spots on the neck, and sloppy fretwork/fingerboard setup, all problems I didn't have with the Ibanez. To me, the difference between the SR and the SX is the difference between "inexpensive" and "cheap."

Still, I do consider the Ibanez to be a beginner's bass. It was just kind of something I bought to see whether or not I was going to keep up with my bass playing, now that I'm gigging with a couple local groups it's becoming really apparent that I need something more. I don't plan to play it any longer than I can afford to, and I certainly wouldn't want to go near anything of lower-quality than that.

I picked up a lefty jazz SX bass when Rondo was still located on Route 22 in Union, NJ. It's got a great ash body, a better than average neck, and when I ran my fingers down the sides of the neck, I didn't get all cut up ... try that on another cheapo bass! I had it re-strung righty (I still play left-handed) and just ordered Fender Samarium Cobalt pickups for it, I like it that much.

Look, if I'm playing somewhere, I really don't have to worry about somebody stealing it. Who's gonna steal an SX bass?

Don't get me wrong, I like quite a few Ibanez models. I admit I'm not an SR fan, mainly due to the headstock (I know I have issues ) and the neck width, but I would like to add a higher-end BTB to my arsenal.

Anywho, I think the QC on the SX's I've played has been TOP NOTCH for the price. I don't see any glaring issues with the electronics, except for maybe the utter lack of shielding. My only real beef with them, however, is the tuners. They are not high quality. Lower ratio, and horrific metal-on-metal grindy-ness. lol.

Is it possible you scored a lemon? They're rare, but I have heard of a few. I'm not comparing my custom Conklin to the SX, but I could EASILY see me gig consistently with the SX. And a HUGE selling point? You aren't suicidal if it gets dinged!!!!

Anywho, to each their own, bro. If you dig the Ibanez, that's cool. Hey, you're playin'! ...And that's all that matters, right???
