Roscoe Beck Forum?

The Fender 7250s that came on the bass in 2003 are still on my RBIV.
The bass was used on the three studio songs on my band website. I went direct into the board.

Classy looking studio, eh?

This beautiful RB IV is now mine - thanks slap2much!! :hyper:

Question - what are people's favourite strings with their RBIV's? I'm typically a 1/2 round or flats person these days - what would you recommend?

thanks!

Stephen

Enjoy, Stephen! I presume #24 goes to you as well.

I might be back in the club someday, meanwhile best to all & good luck with reviving the model. For now I'm gonna be upgrading my Jazz Bass Club membership...and btw I like the sound/feel of broken-in D'Addario Chromes if you're looking at flats.

Thanks, Craig!

I love chromes on my Reverend Rumblefish and TI Jazz Flats on my Lakland Skyline Scheff. I have a set of SIT Silencers that are on order and I think they may mate nicely with the RBiv as they were a perfect match on my now former Lakland Hollowbody. If not, I have some spare sets of chromes and TI's around to test drive to find the best sonic fit.

Chromes on mine...love 'em but I am a "Flats" guy.

I traded my first RBIV to a TBer for a Rumblefish P/J and though I really like the fish, I was sorry that I got rid of the RB.

I was lucky enough to snag this before they were discontinued....not leaving anytime soon:

I also had a Rumblefish PJ and while I liked the way it played, the sound was really not that special. The Rumblefish XL I have now is a far superior bass. I like the RBiv neck with its flatter radius a bit better, though.

Bought a used RBV yesterday, Candy Apple Red, mint condition, incl. original case and original accessories. Paid EUR 1250 plus pp., thats about 1500$. It's a very reasonable price here in Europe, two or so are offered in Ebay over a whole year... nobody gives it away, you simply don't find one anymore.

Good score, bring on the pics :)

Niiiiiiice, 2 CARs in a row there with Aspidites and Sipuri! If I was ever to go back to a 5 string the RBV is that one that I'd want. However, given that it has ceased to exist currently, I imagine my hunt would be somewhat protracted. It would be great if another manufacturer picked up the RB torch in the same way as the Lakland Daryl Jones is now made by A Basses (a different course of events I know, but someone should continue Roscoe's basses as part of a standard product line). Then maybe we could have a maple necked RBV just like Roscoe's :)

Hey everyone...I have a 1998 RBV on the way, bought it sight unseen but seems to be pretty minty, especially given it's 18 yrs old. Condition was listed as Excellent and pics looked very clean. Hopefully it will arrive as described and I will be a happy bassist!!!

Just had a question, do any of you know if there were any major construction or production changes over it's run? Just curious if a 1998 was built just the same as the 2006's.

Thanks, and I will be posting pics and joining the club when it arrives.

So Guys, here is mine! I love this Bass. Beautiful Neck, wonderfull B-String and al lot of Sound!

No Picture, no Bass ;)

There is only one strange thing... There is no Push-Pull-Poti!
Its a very early Model, do you know if this feature came into this Bass later? Till yet, I don´t miss the Push-Pull but maybe I´ll fix it in the future.

I don't know much really about the history of the Roscoe Beck models, but I don't think the RBV was altered much during its life span. On yours, the output socket isn't on the scratchplate where it should be, behind the pickup controls, which makes me think yours has been modified by a previous owner somewhere along the line, which is likely when the push/pull pot was removed.

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking, my new to me 1998 model is only 12 yrs old. I will be posting pics very soon but I'm very happy to report this bass arrived in excellent condition and it is everything I hoped it would be. I can't believe I like it so much!!!

Anyway, I have a quick question for you owners about the 5 string bridge. I see that each saddle has two height adjustment screws and each saddle can be adjusted for string spacing, but what is the bigger black screw at the base of each saddle? From messing with it, it seems to affect the string height and saddle angle. Please let me know it's specific function and the optimal way to set it.

Thanks!!!
