So a weird thing happened after my jam session tonight. I was cleaning my RBV and went to put it back in the case, and the intonation screw for the G string (the one that is threaded through the back of the bridge into the saddle) just came out on its own. Had it not hit the hardwood floor i wouldn't have heard it. I was able to get it back in place, but hardly any of the actual screw went into the saddle.
Have any of you had to get a longer intonation screw for your G string saddle? Should I? I tune 1/2 step down, i'm not sure if that has something to do with it.
If you tune down you probably have to shorten each string so it probably does push the length of the bolt (it's a machine bolt, not a wood screw, if I'm not mistaken) to its limit. And I've had lots of bolts on amps and basses back out on their own over a period of years because basses put out a ton of frequencies these things sympathetically vibrate with.
When I realize I need a longer screw for a bridge, I take an example screw to the hardware store as a reference for thread and length and get about .25'' longer.
