Interesting, I use 45-65-80-105-130 and I have no issues with slapping mine. So I guess that makes me more manly today!! Woot! :bassist:

I really wish D'addario would make a 135 B in Super Long Scale, then I would be in heaven!

Well my RB IV showed up a few days ago. Minty condition w/G&G tweed case, and most of the case candy, including the plastic ramp. Weighs exactly 8 lbs, 15 oz. Plays nicely, sounds terrific. This bass is fine as wine, honeymoon period may last a while.

My RB IV looks exactly like yours. Mine is an '03 I think. Came with a black tolex Fender branded case. Playing it tomorrow at Pigstock. Can't wait.

Thanks! I was hoping to find a 3-tone burst like my first one. Turns out, I like the honey just as much. The main thing I wanted was a maple board. They're kinda hard to find, so I think I lucked out. Got lucky with the weight too, my other one was 9 1/2 lbs. Looking back, that's prolly why I let it go. Hopefully I won't be stupid and sell this one!

A quick question to the RBV owners - do you use a taperwound B or just a regular B? The reason I'm asking is that for some reason I just can't get comfortable with a regular B. It feels like the string is lifted so far off the fretboard that it makes it kind of hard to get comfy on the E as the B is sticking out so much. Even after a setup.. Would this mean that I need my saddle re-worked to accommodate a regular B? When I got my '97 last year it still had the original strings on it and the B was taperwound. I'd rather not have any bridge mods done, so is my best option just switching to a taperwound B?

I think I just answered my own question, but i'd like some other opinions. Thanks!

I'm fairly certain that I use a .128 B string on my RB5. I string mine using the through body ferrules, and the break of the B string at the bridge is pretty dramatic. It does take a little time and adjustment for the B string to settle in, but it does. It may take a little pressing down on the B string at the bridge to get that break set well, but it will develop. And in turn your action should get back to a normal place. I used to use taperwound strings a long time ago, but I gravitated back to regular wound strings because I prefer the tone.

One thing I've noticed is that the string hole in the bridge is a little small for a B string. And sometimes the bridge holes may not line up perfectly with the holes in the body. That became really apparent when I tried using a .130 B string. But loosening the bridge screws and re-aligning the bridge holes with the body holes helped tremendously.

OK, thanks for the tip! I use the thru-body option with a 130 myself. I'll check the alignment.

It seems to be less extreme just after a setup, but creeps up over time, which is odd because the other strings don't seem to do that. Maybe the saddle is creeping up from vibration after heavy use? I don't "beat on the B", I use it sparingly BTW..

Early RBV owners, i need some help here....

I just began to restring mine after being out of the country for a few weeks and when i took off the D string i noticed the main intonation screw is gone. I think string tension had been holding it in place. I looked everywhere and cant find it. This is NOT the bass i took with me, RBV had been in the case at home the whole time. From what I can tell the diameter is around 4mm or a little over 3/16". I am afraid to remove one of the other screws to get the length. Tricky bridge and all... ;) Does anybody have that info? I need to use it tomorrow! thanks!

The bridge on the RB5 is a Gotoh 206. It's been discontinued, which is one of the reasons why Roscoe wasn't keen on his signature 5 string staying on the market.

I can't find specs that detailed online. I think if you bring your bass to a tech they can probably find a suitable replacement part. I would check my own RB5, but I don't have the appropriate tools to measure the hardware accurately enough to help you out here.

Thanks, i kind of figured that would be the case. I searched too and nothing useful came up for me. I will hit my local guy tomorrow.. I think i'm close with the diameter of the screw, i just cant bring myself to remove one of the others! :nailbiting: :roflmao:
