Am certain that master artisan Keith Roscoe knows exactly what to do with that gorgeous piece of Cocobolo. Cocobolo is one of my favorite top woods. It is my impression that it's scarce and expensive, and that many custom luthiers don't even offer it any more. That Roscoe Guitars offers this top wood on a Standard Plus is pretty outrageous. Another view from the aforementioned FB post:

Agreed- it’s a beautiful wood, but varies quite a bit. I have a putter that’s made out of it, but like my basses, it’s not the tool, it’s the fool using it that really matters ;)

Not to divert this thread from all the love being shared for gold hardware and Cocobolo, PayPal now only uses ShipStation for their shipping and (currently) only uses USPS as the carrier. Navigating to ShipStation via PayPal to ship any package has a limitation of 130 inches, combined length and girth, or less.

It's my understanding that ShipStation is just software used to connect different carriers. Maybe this will help:

I've never used Paypal to set up shipping of any instrument, doing so directly with shipping companies (UPS, FedX, etc). This includes Roscoe basses that may have contained gold hardware parts, too!

It means that if you don't want to use Paypal's new shipping software pathway, then don't. You don't have to. Ship directly with the carrier of your choice, and enter the tracking info into Paypal, marking the item shipped. It's what I've done with some Roscoe basses (on-topic qualifier) that I've sold.

Thanks again, but I’m confident that PayPal and ShipStation will fix this issue so that the PayPal shipping discounts will apply and that you can choose which carrier you want to use via the product and not do the process manually.

Does anyone else find that when you run the pickup selector/balance knob just a touch off the center detent - either way - that it opens up the sound a bit? Less polite? Or is it my imagination?

Maybe if you pan a bit towards the bridge (less polite). But that's because the blend control almost totally switches to the bridge p/u with a small movement of the blend control in that direction (and vice-versa).
My issue with most blend controls is that they don’t distribute a good blend the entire movement of the control. The Pope pre is the only blend control that works properly IMO. prefer Vol/Vol on most preamps these days.

I'm with you on this, Steve. My blend knob is centered, or positioned a tad to either side of center, and blend is my main tonal-change control. I rarely touch on-board bass EQ, just blend and volume. Being happy with the inherent tone of a Roscoe bass, I find little need for much else.

Same here. I typically turn the fader slightly towards the neck pickup to get a bit more of that P bass "grind". I don't know the electronics details (or even if it's true) but I read somewhere that the center detent position on the pickup fader really is slightly lower output than off center. Maybe phase cancelation? I think Kiesel talks about using a proprietary circuit to "fix" that. Hazy memory though.

I am usually/generally happy with the sound of the bass as well. It's just for some of the cover tunes, I wish it was a little less polite, or more jazz sounding. I did get a Sadowsky Metro 5JJ recently. It's a nice bass, sounds great, but the neck is wide. 19mm spacing over 5 strings. Much different than 18.3mm spacing. My hand hurts a little after I play it.
