Roscoe Club

Nice! I see yours has a one piece top as opposed to a bookend. I think the one piece top adds more to the tone. Maybe not a scientific fact! :) I just make that analogy with my one piece top Koa LG having a better tone than my bookend top Buckeye Burl LG, which sounds great.

Bookends hold books on a shelf!:D

That would be called book matched.:)

I am about to upgrade Bartolini preamp to a Mike Pope flexcore 2 band preamp....I will also wire the soapbars in dual/parallel mode.....perhaps I will also change the soapbars to EMGs or Aguilars for the tone I am looking for
I still have a Nordstrand 3 band and a Pope 4 band I was going to try in my Century 5, just haven’t got around to it yet. Winter lethargy and all… ;)

Ok let’s talk strings, fretless and mahogany body. If you had a fretless Roscoe with a mahogany body which type of strings do you think you’d gravitate towards? I’m specifically trying to consider how the strings will marry up with the darker more dense resonance of the mahogany body?
I always kept “stock” strings on mine. D’Addario nickel rounds. I’ve never been one to experiment much, at least not for the last 10-15 years. I don’t buy basses and mod anymore. I try to buy a bass that has the sound I want. I bought my Roscoe because it sounded like a Roscoe. Roscoe craftsmanship, Bartolini electronics, D’Addario strings.

No offense intended to those who like to experiment, I just have a different view. I had a sound in my head I wasn’t able to get with my Roscoe so I bought a different bass that has that sound. I thought about modding my Roscoe, but then I wouldn’t have THAT sound. And even though I don’t really use THAT sound right now, I want to have it available.

Try GHS pressurewounds. Roundwound sound that's easier on the fingerboard.

I would stay with the stock Daddario or DR Sun Beams. :)

For playing a fretless with a group I really like the EB Cobalt flats. They have a bit more of a warm tone, have good mwah and are easy on the finger board. The Nickel RW's have a bit more mwah but seem to disappear more in the mix (at least on my fretless with the poly coated ebony board).

I had TI flats on my fretless mahogany core Sukop 5, it had great tone which got me a lot of compliments. One of those wish I still had it basses...
I have TI flats on my semi hollow fretless that's mostly mahogany. Great, great sound, but it sounds like Armybass is looking for a brighter sound....at least that's what I understood.

You're probably right. If you want to be heard on stage, that bass with those strings had the strongest mids I've ever heard/had, other than a 10 lb '76 P with Dimarzio PUPS. My Mahogany Warmoth with Thunderbird PUPS can get pretty bright, but that doesn't help here

Here’s my 10th Roscoe. Just shipped out. It looks absolutely stunning. I don’t know how I’ll be able to sleep until it is safely in my arms. Keith just astounds me with every build. Incredible.
