From my understanding of bass guitar psychics - I mean physics - a reverse slant (bass side closer to the bridge) would have less fundamental vibration to pick up and would in turn give you a tighter (more trebley) sound while slanting it the opposite way would phatten up the sound since the pickup sees more of the fundamental of the string. Thing-of-it-is I don't know how much slant would make a difference.[/QUOTE
Little backside action. I know slanted on the Warwick Thumb 5 is pretty extreme and contributes to it's unique sound. I'm not sure how much of a difference honestly it sounds with the Roscoes. I'm sure someone could tell but I don't notice a huge difference going from my LG 6 with barts to my LG 5 with slanted barts. Both have ash bodies and maple boards. I just think it looks damn cool![]()

Gloss. So the story here is that back in the day the Standard Plus lines did not get offered matching headstocks or gloss. Keith has since changed that and is doing them. I opted for both.Is that Koa/Ash oiled or high gloss?

Exhibition Box Elder
I thought about seeing if I could get my old standard plus glossed as I know the top would look amazing, but I kind of like it as is. It’s different from the newer ones.

Yeah, this one is 10 years old. I do like the look of some of the newer “standard” basses though. They are as nice as the custom and signature if you ask me. Just not carved. As much as I wanted them to offer gloss finishes on the Standard Plus basses…. Now that they do I am nostalgic for the oil finished Standard Pluses.
the oiled look is nice too. I almost went with the oil finish.Yeah, this one is 10 years old. I do like the look of some of the newer “standard” basses though. They are as nice as the custom and signature if you ask me. Just not carved.
The newer two that I have (2019 and 2021) have a very satin smooth feel. The Box Elder top SKB was birthed in 2013 and has some kind of light finish on the neck. It by no means feels slick or sticky I can't tell what it is but it's a different feel that the ones made during the last two years.Oil finish or what looks like an oil finish is my favorite, especially on the neck. Polyurethane can become a little tacky-like.
This one dropped in price again- now $2190 (before shipping and taxes)

I'm with you. Give me some quilted or spalted maple!I hope I'm not being heretical but buckeye just never quite did it for me. When I get close to it all I can see is weird eyes and grotesque gargoyles staring at me. Maybe it's from some childhood trauma I've buried, I don't know.
It’s tempting. I wonder if it sounds as “open” as my Sadowsky does? I’m getting used to the Sadowsky neck, but the Roscoe 5 is just the best neck I’ve ever played. I like my passive P but I wonder sometimes if a 5 “needs” a preamp? Maybe not. I had a Fender P5 passive tug had a nice B string. Now it is down to $1970...
