Boxelder is indeed my favorite wood and Keith is currently building me a Boxelder/ash LG 6. I’d love to get an LG 5 with one of those tops but I seriously need to sell a few Roscoe’s before I can do that. I’m literally out of room.

Here’s the one need to make room for now.

I had Box Elder trees filling my back yard growing up (not to mention those black with orange line 'Box Elder bugs'). It is my dream to place an order with Keith one day for a Box Elder bass just like that top with the pink! I could sell 2 or 3 right now...but then I'd have less Roscoes...

This was my first Roscoe and I thank God I was smart enough to keep it. Several friends have offered to buy it including Scott (Armybass) and my bass teacher also wanted it. It is that good.

It has a Spanish Cedar body with a Myrtle top, lined fretless Diamond wood fingerboard. It is such a fantastic fretless that I sold my Pedulla Pentabuzz when I got this bass. I now have an SKB 3006 and a Century 3005 and I am keeping them. I have owned and sold other Roscoe basses and several of them I regret letting go. Like this one:

That was a killer bass and I was foolish to sell it. Yeah, Scott, I wish I had kept it too!

This Roscoe landed Monday so I've been tweeking it since Tuesday and it's shaping up to being a fine addition to the stable. It definitely has its own sound so there's no redundancy within the arsenal. Overall I'd say it has a naturally dark tone with a heck of a lot going on in the mids and low mids. The top end fascinates me and is difficult to describe but lands more in the "presence" descriptive versus "treble." I wonder if the wenge fingerboard is partly the reason - either way it's a very open and natural top end.

It's also the same weight as my Fodera at 9 lbs 13 oz, so it's not a featherweight but still comfortable. The only things I would change is giving it a C neck profile instead of the D that it has and making the truss access easier. High marks overall however.

It’s a really fun gig. Our 4th year in a row. The Roscoe left is an LG3000. It’s a smaller, really unique body. It’s the “quintessential” Roscoe in my mind, but it’s unique in that it has single coil jazz pickups. Matching headstock, nice quilt maple top. The other is my Century Standard Plus 5. It’s the “budget” Roscoe but still made in the same shop. Ash body, Koa top, Birdseye maple board and maple neck. Bartolini electronics. I’ve had it 10 years. It’s my go to bass. I think it’s one of the nicest basses Roscoe has made.

I have the original Aguilar preamp in the bag for my LG3000. It has the basic Bartolini 3 band that my Century 5 has now, and single coil Aguilar jazz pups. It’s a little “bright” sounding. I also have SS strings so maybe nickel would be better. I also have a couple sets of TI Flats laying around (don’t ask) thay I should sell as I have a set on my P bass and I don’t really need to change them. I’ve thought about trying the Aguilar preamp to have the “passive” single coil option. One thing I didn’t like about the Sadowsky’s I had was the mid situation so I’m hesitant to go to a non mid preamp again.

Any thoughts/advice/experience?
