Roscoe Club

One of my favourite bands is CHON. And they have the great Anthony Crawford playing bass for their 2nd & 3rd records ‘Homey’ & self titled ‘Chon’.

It’s probably not much to the tastes of many people here in the Roscoe thread, but the songs on those 2 albums are recorded with Anthony’s LG3006. And he’s fantastic.

So I was thinking today, if my bass is in the shop to get the gloss coat finish, they’ll have to take it apart, pull out electronics, etc. Maybe I should go ahead and do the quad coil pickup mod and get the pair of toggles for series/parallel/single coil tap for each pickup. In for a penny, in for a pound. While you’re at it you may as well…

Idk. Maybe feel? Idk. By spec it’s a fantastic bass. Just not feeling it. My 13 yo son said “dad, you don’t have to like a bass.”
Yup, that's solid advice from your boy. We sometimes overcomplicate why in paper we SHOULD like something. We shouldn't have to convince ourselves of liking something. I've been in the same boat as you with another hi end bass.

Just AWESOME! … not sure what else to say.
Spanish/Cuban Cedar body ... Much brighter looking in person ... like amber/maple syrup with a touch of orange.

Oh that is sweet brother! I too am enjoying my Spanish Cedar Roscoe. That is a gorgeous bass man. Nice score!

Dude. I am through the roof over this thing. Even found the original Build Paperwork unopened in the case along with the case key and truss rod wrench. ZERO FRET WEAR … NONE

Much like my ash build but with that nice 'Phaat' that the Cedar brings to the table. And visually ... OMG!

Awesome bass! Could you elaborate on the ‘Phaat’ vs. Ash? And versus mahogany if you’ve had a Roscoe with it? Thank you

Never had a Mahogany Roscoe. The ash is just awesome sounding, but can be a bit tenor(ish) with the voice I like to set and the strings I use. The SC, while not quite as articulate as the ash has IMO just a phaatter sound and still very articulate. Really a tough decision for one to make choosing between the two, but for me (so far) it is the Cedar. I could see the ash sounding all but the same with the right strings, but I really dig aesthetically the SC build I found so ...

Please keep in mind that my experience is with a Maple board on my Ash build and a Spalted Purpleheart board (Maple type sound I am told) on the Cedar build. All bets are off with any wood changes there, and if you are really good with that powerful on-board E.Q. (which I am not ..I just roll back the neck PU a bit) all bets would be off as well.

(Just got back from Tampa btw ... :))
