Roscoe Club

I’d love to find a church that needs some Roscoe action on Sundays. Just not too early ;^o

Lol
It can be a bit crazy getting a sound check at 8:00 AM. I have to get up at 6:00 AM in order to go through the tunes and drive the 40 minute commute to church. After practice and playing two services I’m usually wore out that evening.

Joe,

+1 At least, Sunday afternoon is great for napping!

A short time ago we were discussing the idea of flats on a Roscoe. My SKB 6 has a heavy Mahogany body and an Ebony fingerboard and is quite bright sounding...too bright for me. I installed a set of TI flats and they sound great on the bass except for the B string which was not very clear sounding. TI uses a .136 B string and it just sounded undefined above the 5th fret.

I had a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt flats in my string drawer so I installed the B string on the bass and now it sounds much better as I play up the neck. The Cobalt B sounds just fine with the TI's. There is no discernible difference in tone.

I think I will try the complete set of Cobalts on my next string change, however, as you probably know those TI's last a very long time.

Awesome Chuck!
A few of us TI flat users have purchased a couple sets with bad B strings (and even one set with a bad sounding E string).
When I say “bad” I really mean a bit dead sounding. The last set that I purchased for my Roscoe fretless sound great. As a matter of fact the last several sets the I purchased have sounded good. I think it might have been some issues TI was having in their process. Regarding the EB Cobalt flats, I totally love them too. I have a set on my Fender 4 string 60th Anniversary RW Jazz and on my Recently converted Fender Pro PJ and totally love them! I could definitely see the B sounding good with TI flats. They both feel so smooth after they’re broke in.

I have been using Fodera strings on my Peavie Cirrus and DR on my Roscoe. they both recommend putting a 90+ degree bend in the string before you cut it to the length needed. I am sure this helps to make sure there isn’t any unwinding of the wraps over the core of the string. There are some YouTube’s that talk about the subject.

I learned that years ago. I don’t remember where.

Most string packages specify that these days.

The Cobalts are my favorite flat -- but unless something changed since the last time I checked, they don't make a high C string.

I did send the company an email about a year ago asking them to consider adding a Cobalt flat high C. I never got a response, but it might still be worthwhile for others to make the request if it's of interest.

Ohhh man… I’m trying to remain calm lol.
