Roscoe Club

I put Dunlop flats on my P. They are slightly higher tension than the TI’s I had on before and the action seemed a little high, I assume from the added tension. I took a wrench and tried to make a truss rod adjustment, turning it to the right to tighten (toward the G string side) but I didn’t meet any resistance. I tried the other way. No resistance. The truss Rod seems to move easily either way, and for multiple turns. Usually it’s only a 1/4 or maybe 1/2 turn. I’m concerned. Is my truss rod/neck f’ed up?

We’ll anyone that knows me knew that it would eventually happen and a rainy Wednesday was all that it took to push me over the edge.
I removed the Aguilar OBP-3 preamp from my fretted Roscoe and installed the Pope Flex Core preamp. It was a really easy install with the only soldering required to the ground wires to the bridge and various shielded cavities. And of course I did have to drill one hole for the active/passive switch. :jawdrop: But all went well.:)
Overall I am very pleased. The bass retained it's natural voice (that I really loved with the Aguilar) but with the addition of the passive tone control, hi and lo mid EQ's and active/passive functions I get some really nice tones and added features. Very glassy sounding highs and the mids are quite musical to my ears. It can get a bit aggressive (which I'm quite relieved about because I was afraid it might be too polite sounding) and it can also sound really smooth hifi.

I'll post a few pics.

Now that's nice. I'd like to try that sometime. Do you feel the swap is an upgrade?

Definitely Chris. The bass retained its growly voice but with the addition of the hi and low mid controls, passive tone control and active/passive switch I can get lots of great tone variations (not available with the Aguilar). The Pope also has an overall gain trim pot that allows matching the output with my other basses.
Plus, I can choose between 2 different center frequencies for all 4 bands of EQ.
I initially chose:
Bass - 90hz (46hz optional)
Treble- 6khz (10khz optional)
Lo mid - 473hz (330hz optional)
Hi mid - 1.8khz (1khz optional)

I’m going to play it a while as configured and can try the other optional frequency centers if I’m lacking something).

Oh yeah, those are my preferred frequencies for that Pre.

On Joe's advice, I had purchased a Pope 4 band pre for a Roscoe, but I never got around to installing it :banghead:

The new owner is happy with the bass as is though, so that's good. :)
If you’re talking about me, then yes, I’m still very very happy with the bass just as it is. I’ve done a lot of gigs with it this past summer and it’s never disappointed!
