Roscoe Club

I'm back in the club. Well, I will be by this weekend. I just picked this up from CactusmanDoug. (Great guy, btw. We had a great conversation.)
This will be my 5th or 6th Roscoe. I'm excited to try it out. I love that Roscoe B string feel!

Very nice! I'd like to try a Roscoe JJ sometime. I was eyeing that one as I've been testing Roscoe's lately. While I've owned the LG, SKB and Century body styles before, I have never had one of each at the same time and really wanted to try all of them back to back to really decide which model is best for me considering ergonomics, balance, feel, etc. So I've been on a bit of a buying spree as of late and recently acquired one of each in my possession at the moment. This confirms what I suspected based on my prior interactions but I wanted to be able to try each body style together. For me, I've decided that all things considered, the SKB wins and I'm really glad I was able to do this exercise. I think if I could find a light weight Century it would be a close second. But alas, I can't keep them all.

Wow, every Roscoe is unique and superb in its own way. Really great instruments.

The Century and SKB are a good fit for me. I owned an LG and it really was okay too but I prefer the look of the SKB/Century. I have two Century and one SKB. They are all wonderful.

Yeah, its not that I don't like the LG.... but I do like the SKB and even the Century more. For now anyway, I've got a couple in the classifieds. Maybe I should try to find a way to keep all of the Roscoe's I have. Sure would like to. One thing is for sure. I've yet to experience a bad Roscoe.

I've had all 3. For me it's the upper horn. The Century feels like it "hangs" better to me. I don't feel like I'm reaching for the first fret. Mine is under 8 pounds, I think like 7.8 or something. Not as light as my Classic P, but VERY comfortable. The Roscoe 5 string neck is like the best thing ever.

I’ve got too many gig bags, but I always grab the Mono Vertigo for one bass, or the Mono double for 2 basses (with the Tick attachment). The only real weak spot with Mono bags for me is the shoulder straps aren’t very well padded- not a big deal for just going to/from the car to the space or gig, but when I was schlepping a bass downtown for lessons on public transportation (and with my work laptop and such in the front pocket), it really starts to be a pain.

Studio Slips sells a bigger bag that’ll mount to the Mono d-rings for the tick, so you can carry a pedal board (like the Pedaltrain Nano+ or the Metro 16), which I’m super excited about, as I have both of those boards .

But like anything else, it all comes down to what you are going to do with it. The Monos backpack well on me, albeit a little high, but so do all my other bags (Access Stage 5, ProTec Contigo, F Bass OEM bag made by Music Area, Gator Icon, and probably a few more I am forgetting), but for me the Monos have the best balance of protection and storage space, but I’m not afraid to make two trips either ;) But Tb’er Pacman has said he’s worn out zippers on Mono bags, which is a big deal. I have not had any issues, but I am far from a professional every day musician, more of a weekend warrior.

The storage space and weight is kind of a thing. I like the top load of the Mono. In the past I have loaded all my stuff for a gig in my bag which is handy, but it makes the bag bulky and heavy. And my "backups" are in my other bag with my backup bass that usually just stays offstage so it's handy if I need it.

I'm thinking about getting a "gear bag" for all my cables, IEM's, backups, batteries, tools, spare DI, etc. and not worry about if my gig bag will hold it all. Something like this maybe:

It's one more thing to carry, but right now I have a bass, a Nano+ and a stand. Maybe my Nano+ would fit in there as well. It makes sense to me from an organizational standpoint. Everything in one place. I am all about one trip load ins and less is more, but maybe a bag with everything I need isn't such a bad idea. Then my bass bags don't have to have all the pockets and stuff. Just my bass and a pocket enough for my IEM's and iPad as thats all I need for my church gig, or a cable and iPad for a jazz gig. Could even use a Mono Sleeve for that.

If you have a Mono Vertigo, how about using a Mono Tick?
