Roscoe Club

What do you all have for gig bags? The Roscoe bags are ok, but they don't "backpack" very well for me. I'm looking for something new. Mono comes up a lot. Wondering what you all use.

Music Area makes a good bag. Access makes another good bag. My main carry for bass are my Mono M80 Series and Harvester. For guitar is an Access.

+1 for the Mono M80 Series.

Yeah. I’ve had quite a few different gig bags over the years but the Mono M80 has been the only gig bag I’ve used for the last 15 years. But I only carry my bass from my music room to my car and then from the parking lot to the church stage (just use one strap for most trips).
It’s been super dependable though and still works and looks like new.

I'm back in the club. Well, I will be by this weekend. I just picked this up from CactusmanDoug. (Great guy, btw. We had a great conversation.)
This will be my 5th or 6th Roscoe. I'm excited to try it out. I love that Roscoe B string feel!

That’s a great looking bass and Doug is great guy!
Congrats and welcome back.

I have a Pro Tec gig bag that has served me well for a bunch of years with no problems. It’s an earlier version of this one: Bass Guitar Gig Bag - Gold Series
I had one of those with a Mike Lull bass- very nice bag- not a hard case replacement, but good for carrying your bass and a strap and a few other smaller things.

Mooradian is unfortunately out of business. :(

Someone had mentioned seeing that on Facebook. I'm not on FB and haven't shopped for a bag in a while, so I wasn't sure. That's a shame. I used them for as long as I can remember.
Guys in the Chicago bass players group on FB had mentioned that a local guy still has a few NOS bags left, so probably get while the getting is good.

I've had a Levy's leather bag for the last 25-30 years. It's still in fantastic shape, in spite of being around the world several times.
Sadly, I don't think they make those any more. I know several working bass players who swear by them.

I very seldom use the backpack straps on gig bags, and if they can be removed, I remove them. I’ve collided with a door frame top two many times and don’t care to do it a third! :)
My fondness for gig bags over HSCs are the roomy storage pockets (some nicer than others), less foot space required to insert/remove the bass/guitar, the additional carry handles (particularly on the back and front of the bag) and they are usually much lighter than a HSC. The shoulder straps can be a plus, too.

We’ll anyone that knows me knew that it would eventually happen and a rainy Wednesday was all that it took to push me over the edge.
I removed the Aguilar OBP-3 preamp from my fretted Roscoe and installed the Pope Flex Core preamp. It was a really easy install with the only soldering required to the ground wires to the bridge and various shielded cavities. And of course I did have to drill one hole for the active/passive switch. :jawdrop: But all went well.:)
Overall I am very pleased. The bass retained it's natural voice (that I really loved with the Aguilar) but with the addition of the passive tone control, hi and lo mid EQ's and active/passive functions I get some really nice tones and added features. Very glassy sounding highs and the mids are quite musical to my ears. It can get a bit aggressive (which I'm quite relieved about because I was afraid it might be too polite sounding) and it can also sound really smooth hifi.

I'll post a few pics.

Well I gigged out with the Roscoe/Pope for the first time last night and it sounded phenomenal!
I really didn't EQ the preamp much at all though. I added just a touch of lower mids and bass and then I tweaked the blend and passive tone control on a couple songs.
That was all that was required to dial in the tone I wanted. The church also added new Personal mixers for most of us and they sounded great. We are transitioning from the latest version of the Aviom personal mixers to the Allen & Heath ME-1 personal mixers. Not sure how that affected what I was hearing but the bass tone in my IEM's was huge and thick sounding. By far the best I've heard in IEM's.
Bottom line is if you're on the fence at all on your Roscoe's onboard preamp, the Pope is the way to go. You will not be disappointed!

What is the internal trim pot for?

@JOME77 I wish you were near me to wire one up. I am not good at that kind of thing.

If you can get it here Chris I'll be glad to install it for you.:)
It really is an easy install though (other than drilling the active/passive switch hole). The only soldering required is to the grounding system and the battery terminals (although if you have a pin extractor you would remove the wires from the connector and then install them back into the connector after your route them from the battery compartment into the main cavity). The pickup wires connect to the terminal strip located on top of the blend pot.
