The weight/great tone correlation is a puzzle. I also have had very light and very heavy basses that sounded better than most. I also have had some that were "normal" weight that sounded great.

I have two 6's that demonstrate the light/heavy>>>sounds great thing. My G.Gould ggi6 is the lightest bass I own. It weighs well under 9 pounds and sounds terrific. My SKB 6 is one of the heaviest basses I own. It is over 11 pounds and, you guessed it, it sounds terrific too. My Century 5 is typical weight at about 9 pounds and also sounds wonderful.

Not true at all about weight. No piece of wood will be the same, but light wood and heavy wood respond very differently as instruments for sure….neither will guarantee a good sounding instrument, but they’ll most certainly have a very different attack based on weight alone.

Nope. Weight is irrelevant to tone. It is however relevant to my left shoulder and back

Yeah. Those are currently my favorite flats. I totally love the sound and feel of those strings. Half my basses have Cobat flats and the other half (except the Fodera) have DR Pure Blues. Love both of those strings.

I don’t think they sound much like flats but maybe that comes later?

As is they do sound pretty good, the tension is just right and I was surprised by how good the B string is
