I don’t recall that one being built, but I was looking at it before I got my fretless. I think PacMan knows the owner and was surprised it was at GC for sale.

I love that Pale Moon Ebony top. Great 5 string “Stingray” I would guess. I would guess the usual Roscoe spacing? And yeah, it does seem a bit high, but if you watch, GC tends to drop prices when the stuff sits.

I actually know the guy who owned that bass. He lost almost everything in a fire, and that's more than likely why he sold it. He *loved* that bass.

I've noticed over the years that lots of bass players buy a fretless because it seems like a cool thing they want to try -- and then a couple years later they decide they don't really need a fretless after all. I see a lot of nice used fretless basses for sale.

I also have two of them I don't really need...

Guilty. I bought back one of my old fretless basses last week. Going to keep it this time regardless of how little I use it or not. I have a nice stable now with a pair of 5's - fretted and fretless - and my Classic P. Toss in my "project" G&L jazz with new custom wound pups and I'm good to go.

I know this has been discussed before but in regards to the Roscoe neck thickness throughout the years. I just received a stunning Walnut SKB 5 Custom and it's a 2015 and has the thicker neck. My 2013 SKB and 2008 LG 5's have the thinner necks. I guess 2014 ish is the era it changed? I know there are a few newer models floating around with thinner necks but I think they were made a number of years ago and made it onto a new body.

I have a 2016 with a thicker neck than the newer ones.

The Century that I had the neck redone on was an early 2015, so that seems about right.

Once he left (and we're talking 5-8 years ago probably), the necks immediately became much fatter. Gard explained it to me as that's the way Keith prefers them. So, yeah, there's probably quite a bit of variability of the past 5-8 years.

The 2008 SKB neck I had was so tiny, it was ridiculous (in a great way)... the most recent owner of it had that neck replaced too (with a fretless one), so there's no perfect neck for everyone I guess...

Yes. Matt's post tells the primary story. I have a 2008 Century V and it's by far the thinnest (finger board to back of neck) that I've had. Oddly though, I've had another 2008 Roscoe) signature) and the neck was thicker (finger board to back of neck). I think it varied based on who performed the final shaping to the neck.

If I can find my calipers I’m curious to take some measurements. Will be interesting to see what differences, if any, I find. Sample size of three:
  • 2016 Century Custom 5
  • Date unknown (I’m guessing mid 2000’s) Century Standard Plus 5
  • 2023 SKB Standard ++ that I’m pretty sure Kyle did the neck for.

The SKB certainly feels a bit chunkier than the other two, but we’ll see what the numbers show.
