Roscoe Club

View attachment 7384598Hi..also a new Roscoe owner..been meaning to share my SKB 3006 Signature Series build along with all the awesome looking builds i see on here! I love mine..this thing is awesome..maybe can attach some sound samples soon
I wish I had a use for a 6 string. My first Roscoe "custom" order was a Century Standard Plus 6 with jazz pups and Bartolini preamp. It was so awesome. I think a Roscoe 6 string looks as natural as a Fender 4 string.

I agree although my Century 5 is also incredible. I sold the fretless Century but still have the SKB 6 and the Century 5. They are not leaving while I live.

Howdy folks

I'm gas'ing for my first Roscoe.
I emailed Keith back and forth a couple times about what I want - basically a mahogany Century Standard Plus with Roscoe Bart's, wenge FB, and maybe a maple/wenge neck - no laminates just a simple mahogany body
Or
Century Standard with pau ferro FB and no laminate - just a mahogany body.

He sent me back an itemized price list for the options I want and well, it's a head-scratcher. Maybe I just don't understand the Standard Plus plus custom VS the Custom model system he has. Could I get some input here?

Some of the options seem reasonable - like the upgrade to Roscoe Barts, wenge FB, and Maple/Wenge FB being only $300. That's amazing.
However, Mahogany is listed on both Standard and Standard Plus price listing as a base option - not listed as an upcharge
And the gig bag being free or hardcase for 75
But his invoice is showing 100 for mahogany and 300 for gigbag

So maybe I just chill and do the Standard in Mahogany.
But do I have to pay for Standard Plus just to upgrade the pickups even if I don't upgrade the neck or fretboard?

Go through Donovan at Fret Spot. I believe he’s less expensive than direct for some reason…and Donovan knows where they’re at price wise for sure

First, realize the "price list" is almost 10 years old. It doesn't account for inflation, labor and commodity prices, or supplier pricing. So, it makes sense that some items quoted now could be more than stated on the 10-year-old list.

While the Standard/Standard Plus price lists are still a valid starting point, they assume no modifications, which is the basis and logic for both of those product lines from day 1 of their existence. And, at the beginning, any upgrade of feature(s) meant going up to the next level product line, such as Custom or Signature. More recently, modifications to features in Standard/Standard Plus lines have been allowed and welcomed. However, one has to pay for those on a case-by-case basis, according to quoted estimate.

Regarding pickups, Standard/Standard Plus feature lists show Bart Classics as the default. Roscoe Barts would be extra. Backward slants (Jimmy Haslip placement) would be allowable on a Standard/Standard Plus build according to @JOME77 , based on his knowledge of others receiving that feature in the past. However, specifying "Warwick Thumb soapbar spacing and placement," would probably incur a modification charge.

These comments are based on my custom build experiences directly with Roscoe Guitars going back to 2018, including estimate procurement, and actual orders. Since you've started working with Keith, I would continue with him to work out refinements. Otherwise, there's no harm in talking with Donovan at Fret Spot, as recommended a few times above. Regardless, keep working on your order and get into the build queue. It's worth it!

Way back when I was first getting Roscoe’s (13 or so years ago now) you couldn’t do anything to the Standard/Plus line that wasn’t on the spec/price list. As stated, that was the point. A less expensive bass but still built in the same place by the same people as the Signature basses. Shoot, Keith did the fretwork on mine. That was so cool.

Anyway, it was years later that they started doing requests for upgrades on them. There are a few “standard plus” basses out there that aren’t far from a Custom.

I kind of prefer the flat, uncarved body of a Standard/Plus bass. I am glad that I sent it back a couple years ago to have a gloss finish put on though. I feel like now my Standard Plus looks as good as any Custom/Signature model.

Have fun with whatever you decide. Specing out your own bass is really fun. I’ve done it a few times. The wait is killer now days (I thought 6-8 weeks back in the day was bad) but when it comes to your door…so amazing.

Some of you may recall me having some wenge civers made for my rootbeer stained ash bodied Roscoe.
Well in the end U couldn’t adjust to the look so I talked the factory black plastic covers back on. To remove the temptation, I gave them to @JohnnyR because I thought that they would look good installed on his mahogany bodied Roscoe.
He had to scribe them a bit, and plug and redrill a few holes, but in the end, I think that they look great!

Getting into the Christmas spirit. We're in the process of performing out 2025 Christmas program this weekend (6 shows over 3 days). I'm not playing bass this year, but I am working in production audio.
Here's a video from last year (where I played my Roscoe). It's got lots of nice winter scenes.

Merry Christmas!

They decided to put you out of sight of the camera this year after all the complaints? ;)

My college degree is actually in video production (which I do nothing remotely associated with now), but I spent several years on the side of the cameras that my looks were suited for :roflmao:

This fretted Roscoe would make your collection complete:
Thanks again for the head's up on this one! It turns out it does, in fact! I dig this bass so much! Thanks @TomJ4Eden for this one, love it! Here it is with the fretless I got from @SteveC :

Such an awesome couple of basses, I'm so freaking stoked. Kinda cool how the bass that brought me here wound up getting returned, but I managed to meet some really cool folks and find some awesome basses for sale. Thanks guys!

I'm no virtuoso, but I couldn't resist a quick cover video:
