Hey all, I haven't been around for a while, but Steve posting about the fretless being for sale awoke me from my slumber.

I just self-released an ambient/lo-fi instrumental Christmas album in case anyone wants to check it out. Only one song with a bass part (Lofi Santa Strut), which surprised me and most of my family. 3 originals and 5 classics.

Love it!
Did you play all of the parts?

In case anyone is interested, Keith made me two 32" medium scalers with 24 frets, RMC Piezo systems, drop D tuners and LED's on the side of the fingerboards back in 1999-2000. The bird's eye maple "Birdie" was my main stage/studio bass for a number of years.

The buckeye burl twin "Buckie" was built as my back up. I only know about one other 32" medium scaler he built, but it's likely there were more.

More on 'Buckie" here: Keith Roscoe "Bucky"

I consider them both to be marvels of engineering and craftsmanship.

Great to hear from you again Rick.
It gave me a chance to revisit Happy the Man tunes and check our all of your nice basses. Great music and what a wonderful musical journey!

Hey Joe (where you going with that money in your hands?) :smug::smug::smug:

Thanks for the kind words. Shameless plug, I hope you were listening to the recently released Air London Masters, which are the definitive versions of our two original Arista albums.

Yeah, I still use the Roscoe's with my trusty and rusty old Roland V bass. Just plug the 13 pin cable in and it runs from there. Lots of tone changes in the songs so this was the best way I found to control everything "live" and change the dialed-in sounds on the fly. It also provided me with some pretty authentic fretless and upright sounds, along with some cellos and bowed basses. The band is still active and working on new material, but I don't think playing "live" is in the cards anymore.

Little known fact, "The Muse Awakens" was recorded entirely with the Roscoe's. You can hear the fretless sound on the title song "The Muse Awakens" and the upright sound on "Adrift".

Is there an upcharge for reverse slant (Warwick Thumb style) pickup routing for a Standard?

I want a Century Standard 5'er with the reverse slant.
Id email Keith, but I've already asked him so many questions already I don't wanna bug him again.

I'm thinking
Century Standard 5'er 35"
Mahogany body, maple/wenge neck, wenge
Roscoe Bart's, slanted, and 3-way switch for Series/Parallel/Single

IMO, that is how all pickups should be oriented!

Standard prices include Standard specs. Changes are considered custom options with associated costs. Your changes are reasonable, and easily achievable by Roscoe Guitars. You'll just have to pay a little more to get what you want. (Otherwise, we'd all be ordering exotic wood Signature models at Standard model price points : )

In the past there was no up charge associated with the standard slant or reverse slant on Century bodies. I suspect that it would still be no up charge for that.

Hey all, fairly recent Roscoe owner here posting to say hello and introduce myself. Hello!

I made the mistake of playing my friend's recently built Signature SKB fretless, and next thing you know I'm ready to sell all my other basses and start playing Roscoes almost exclusively. We live about an hour or so from Keith's shop and I had been out there to talk to Keith and wound up getting a tour when my buddy dropped off a different bass to get Plek'd. Still, I'd never played one. Don't have to tell this crowd, it was amazing!

So I looked around for models that were for sale and wound up buying an SKB Custom that was owned by one of the users here, although I only learned that after the fact - it actually came from Guitar Center online of all places and seemed like a pretty good deal for an SKB with Nordstrands and some cool upgrades. It played and sounded wonderful! Too bad it had been dropped at some point which left a nice cracked clear coat, and the laminate strips in the neck had shifted ever so slightly so that there was a prominent ridge on the back of the neck. Still, it played so nice I thought about keeping it and kept debating it until l finally returned it today. (To their credit, they refunded everything, even shipping!)

My goal was to have two Roscoes, one fretted and one fretless. While I was debating the SKB, I saw @SteveC 's post about his Signature Plus Century fretless and shot him a message about it. In the end, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase it - thanks again Steve! It's literally perfect! So I'm thinking I have the fretless side of the equation locked down. I also realized that I prefer the Century body and the non-gloss finish, which will be what I look for in a fretted bass. I'm 3/4 of the way convinced to commission a custom build at this point.

Here's a family photo before the SKB went back.

Cheers,

Julian

Congrats on the fretless! I also owned that one for a number of years, and its been lovingly played around Chicagoland, including the famous (and now closed) Studio 5 at Chicago Recording Company. I know it will give you many years of enjoyment.

Congrats on snagging Steve’s fretless. That a nice one!

This fretted Roscoe would make your collection complete:

Thank you! Very cool to get an idea of some of it's history!

Thank you, it's super nice and everything I was looking for. Thanks for the link, too - and you might not be wrong. That's a beautiful Signature! And close to what I would want in a new build. Love the Koa! My ideal bass would have a dark fretboard and the satin finish, but this is very tempting. Will give it some thought, thanks!
