I've started that a bunch of times but never finished/wrote it out. Have to see how you did. ;-)
Thanks for posting it. One of his best. That's the tune I requested when they played in Minneapolis.
I know this is an "amp" question but I'm gonna try it here first if that's OK?
I currently use a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T combo with a Shuttle 110 extension cab for home practice and small gigs.
At church I run DI/IEM using a Radial JDI.
While I like and have used the GB rig for quite a long time, and it sounds really good - within reason - I feel that I may not be getting all I can out of my beautiful Roscoe basses - even for just home playing/practicing.
I would still like to keep it relatively small and fairly light, but I don't gig out much so I'm not bringing it up from the basement very often. Local head options include:
Ampeg SVT 7 Pro
GK Fusion MB500 and MB200
Cabs are GB Uber Quad and some GK's.
Then there are GK combos, Ampeg combos, and Orange combos.
That's about it for stuff to physically try locally. Any thoughts from other Roscoe players?

I like my 500Fusion. For what I got it for (home practice and the occasional 'acoustic/coffeeshop gig) all I arguably needed was the 200, but I also wanted a plausible backup for the LH1000. Since I have the LH1000, I saw no need for the Fusion800, which aside from being more $$$, is just an explosion waiting happen into a 112...
I'm running that into a Hartke Hydrive 112 and I like the 4/8 Ohm versatility. But I'd have no qualms with 1 GK 112 Neo, I just found a deal on the Hartke first. (The 'big' rig is a GK 4x12 Neo...)
I use that setup (Fusion500 -> Hartke 112) not only for most home practice but with the bluegrass group, either with the 3006 fretless or the NXT-5 EUB.
I have no experience with Ampeg, so I'm no help there.
It really depends what you like for tone. Right now I'm playing Ampeg and loving it. I've used GB pretty extensively and still do when I don't feel like lugging a tube amp, and I've used GK pretty extensively in the past. All 3 of them sound phenomenal, they're just different flavors of good.
I'd take your 1X10 extension cab to the store and see how different heads sound through it...then I'd take the Shuttle and see how it sounds through different cabs.

My tone historically has been what I would call "modern/hifi" I guess. I used SWR for a long time, Eden for a bit and then Genz Benz. Obviously my Roscoe basses are fairly "modern/hifi" as well. Its a fine sound, although lately I have been thinking I might like to get a little more "something" in my sound. Not "old school" but just a different school.
Im not sure I'll get it with a pair of 10's in little cabs. Maybe the Shuttle with a bigger cab? Maybe the little cabs with a different head? I don't know.
I've been really liking Ampeg with any of my basses but I definitely don't have a hifi tone. Maybe a little modern.
GK describes that pretty well, but so does GB. Easily able to get modern/hifi and more. A GK MBxxx into a GK Neo cab might be just the ticket...
That's why I mentioned taking both the head and cabs and trying our different heads and cabs.
I've never played a Shuttle 3.0, but I thought I read that they were a little less muscular sounding than the 6/2/9.2's that I have played.
I've also never played the Shuttle 1X10 cabs and I'd think pretty much the same thing as above.
You may find that your current head or cabs do better with a different counterpart, or you may find both of them lacking once you try out other stuff.
Well, my local store and I have a good relationship so I can always take things and try them at home (or at church) without issue. The Fusion is interesting as you can mix a clean and driven channel for a little umph but not full on umph. It's still small and has a tube pre.
The Shuttle 3.0 is a great little head and has some power 175/300 but no tube at all. Definitely the little brother to the Shuttle 6 and 9. The Shuttle cabs are also nice but the low B certainly "taxes" their ability to reproduce. The sacrifice for portability was key for me when I bought them as I was doing a lot of small venues and I wanted as light/easy a load in/out as possible.
I may swing by there on my way home today and grab the Fusion 500 and maybe a GK 2x10 cab and see what happens. It would be very similar to my current rig but maybe with a little more character.
I tried my fretless with a Glock HeartCore head and my cabinets (EA 1x10, Accugroove Tri-115 and Fender Neo 4x10) and it sounded great (and pretty modern...) but I really like using the 4x10 with the Bassman 100T head better. I also ike the solid-state GK heads and not the tube preamp head and really dislike Ampeg - YMMV!

I don't have a Roscoe...yet...but I might be able to relate to your situation a bit. I played through SWR amps for 20+ years, and also liked the Eden sound as well. When I moved into lightweight gear, my first step was to go towards Genz-Benz - a Shuttle 6.0. It was a fantastic amp, but over time I, like you, found myself wanting something a little "more" to my sound. Long story short, I found this in the Aguilar Tone Hammer heads. I find that they can get quite old school if you want them to, but they are also able of doing a nice warm, punchy tone that keeps a foot in both the modern and vintage camps. My ear has never been attuned to the upper-high mid emphasis of the GK amps, and there is also something about Ampeg that doesn't grab me either. If you have the opportunity to try an Aggie TH head out, I'd strongly recommend it.
+1 on this, I used to have a GB Shuttle 6.2 as my main amp and a 6.0 as a backup. I bought a used Aggie TH 500 here on TB and now the GB 6.0 is for sale, the GB 6.2 is the backup and the TH my main bass amp. It does all that you mentioned.
For sure try the Uber Quad. I have played my Roscoe's through the Ubers since they came out a few years ago. Dumped all my eden gear and never looked back.

The GK Fusion 500 to a GK Neo 210 was OK. The Uber Quad was really strong in the mids. With strong mid Roscoes...maybe not a great match. The Eden WTX264 into a little Eden EX112 was OK. Noting that sounded better than my SS GB stuff really.
They had some new Yamaha Powered PA (DSR/DXR) stuff they were trying out - a 18" sub and a 10" hi cab. Bass sounded great. Just like at church. Just like (mostly) through my IEM's. I think the thing is, I'm so used to hearing myself through a high end PA and IEM's that bass amps just sound "off" to me. So...there's that. I have actually tried the powered "PA" type cab but it never really clicked. Hiss from the horn bugged me. Guess I need a118 sub and 110 cab on a pole and a small mixer for home practice and small gigs.

I have not. Might be an option. Right now I'm thinking that for my home practice I just suck it up and "live" with my little combo/cab stack. Or maybe figure out a IEM solution at home. A little mixer, my Westones...
I don't have any direct experience with them, but everybody that uses that rants and raves. IIRC, I've heard them described as a PA tone without the PA.
Does the Shuttle 3.0 have a headphone output? I was pretty happy with what the 6.2 was putting out. Just something else to check out.
There is always the REDDI, Avalon U5, 3Leaf Enabler, etc. type options for the IEM solution.

There is a headphone out on the Shuttle. The DI is also very good.
I use a Radial JDI at church. Many IEM users I know on TB has said the REDDI is the s*&t for IEM's. I have used an Avalon before and really liked it. That is tempting as I can use it for tone via IEM's (like the REDDI) but also with my current GB amp which isn't th cease with the REDDI as the "thru" isn't "sweetened" by the tube, it's just a thru.

If you can find one of the Raven Labs PHA-1 Headphone amp it's perfect for IEM practice. Has stereo inputs wit a mix option. You can usually find them on TB, Ebay, etc. for around $125 - 175.
I go direct with IEM's at church and the PHA-1 is my practice rig.
