Roscoe Club

My two Roscoes were stolen...by my wife. She is in the process of divorcing me. She took them this week and says she's going to sell one of them. If you come across any of them on the Net or otherwise, please let me know. They are:
  • s/n 5959 (SKB Custom; Maple top, Swamp Ash body, Bart pre and Roscoe/Bart pickups; standard M-PH-M neck; Pau ferro fb; standard inlay; black hardware)
  • s/n 6392 (Century Custom, Maple top; Mahogany body; spalted purpleheart fb w/matching/contrasting wood inlay; Aggie pre; 3 x J pickup configuration; standard neck; gold/black hardware)
My avatar includes both these Roscoes pictured: far right is 5959; middle bass is 6392.

Thanks for your help. Stefan 757-449-0027.

Contact your lawyer (if you don't have one, get one ASAP) immediately. Regardless of what she thinks, that is not how the division of marital property works. Best of luck to you.

Unfortunately, since I purchased these while we were married, and since no papers have been presented, my lawyer says she has legal right to half the value. I could eventually get compensated for a dollar amount if f.i. she sells it for something ridiculous like $1000 (force her to pay me the difference), but in the end the basses would be gone. I can't tell you how much this hurts!!! With all the mess that has been going on for the last year, I never thought I'd hate her....until now.

Yes, they are a joint asset, but she has no right to determine how those assets are divided unilaterally, that should be determined via the courts or a court-appointed mediator. I would tell her that if she preemptively sells joint property without an agreed upon manner of how it will be divided, you will sue her for the lost items and damages. Frankly, she's flat wrong here, and you should hold her accountable. If your lawyer isn't giving you this advice, you may want to find more appropriate representation.

Sure, half the value after that has been assessed by a neutral third party and all the assets have been accounted for. She can't unilaterally decide to take them and sell them (at least not in Canada, and I can't imagine the US is that different). Plus, it is the overall assets...for example, you could say something like keep $xxxx more from the sale of the house or car or whatever as opposed to selling the basses. But again, neither party has the ability to make a unilateral decision to sell off assets, let alone place a value upon them. You should be able to get a court injunction to this effect. Again, at least in Canada. Hopefully your lawyer is someone who knows divorce and family law, or even better, deals with those sorts of issues exclusively. I wish you well.

Obviously great minds think alike...or perhaps, experienced souls, eh?

Sadly, more experienced than wise, in my case. Thankfully, in my experience, this was not the track my ex chose. But I made sure I was fully informed before entering into any negotiations on the matter. Luckily we both just wanted to get on with our lives, neither was interested in "punishment".

Gard has this exactly right. She can't just take property out of the house and sell it.
It all has to be itemized, valuations agreed on by both sides, divisions agreed upon by both sides.
Huge ugly pain in the bum.
She can't "just take junk and sell it."

I'd call the cops and her lawyer pronto.

^excellent advice - have your lawyer contact hers, and let that individual know you will be contesting any non-agreed upon division of assets, and if anything of sentimental value is sold in an effort to inflict emotional or mental pain, you will sue for pain & suffering. Betcha her lawyer puts a stop to that kind of talk post-haste. That would be a slam-dunk for your lawyer, unless you have someone that is either really bad or not qualified to deal with family law - in either of those cases, you should immediately move to find a more qualified attorney. A few extra dollars spent now can save you a mountain of dollars later, not to mention significant heartache and aggravation

Yeah, this was my first thought too...no way any lawyer with any kind of experience in family law doesn't shut this down right away with a sternly worded letter and injunction if necessary. @svoncampe, if you have a lawyer who in any way thinks that this is an okay move, you need to fire them ASAP and hire someone else before the end of the day. Pick someone who does nothing else but family law, even find someone who specializes in martial property.

Whatcha gettin'?
Don't be setting me up for "Pix or it didn't happen..." ;-)
It arrives Monday, which is kinda cool, as I'm taking the day off since I have a private lesson with Michael Manring on his swing through town.
But here's your hint: "1 of 40."
And -not- the one we were talking about earlier...
I'll send you the SN for the whole backstory once it's here...

Pix or it didn't happen.

...and "1 of 40"? It was assimilated by the Borg?

I assume the lowest string is a 'F#' . What diameter string would that be ???
35" scale ???
That's how the original owner had it tuned, yes.
Diameter, I donno - Kalium has a wide variety of sets but they only spec sizes - not pitches.
But I would guess 0.136-ish.
"Roscoe Standard" for 7-strings is B->F and there are a few makers of such sets.
I think if you're going to rock an F# a 5th below B you're going to need amps and (especially) cabs beyond what most of us are using.
Some day I'll have to try sending an F# to my 4x12 cab, but I'm not looking at F# tuning...
Yes - that's a 35" scale instrument...
