Roscoe Club

For the last several years we've had a GTG here in middle Georgia. Nothing big, just gathering to admire everyone's gear, fellowship and eat some great BBQ. Scheduling one this year has been a problem. Joe's wife is recovering from surgery, I'm recovering from some "work" on my back, several things have gotten in the way.

Anyway, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel and I'm think'in some time in September might work out.

For planning purposes, any of you Roscoeheads interested in attending so we can work out the details??

Here's an action shot from today. I can get used to a stage/PA like this. However, it was hot as hades. The air conditioned VIP tent was the best part.

That'd be cool, especially since I have a Roscoe now! Felt kinda odd at the last gathering..
I'm outta town Sept. 12-19, so hopefully a different date in September will work for everyone else.

GA is a bit of a hike but I'm interested. Can't commit due to work complications but I'd love to attend if it can be made to work out.

I took my No. 1 to church today. Fretted Century Plus 5 instead of my fretless. I love both basses but man, after not playing my feared for a few Sunday's, it is really sweet. Everyone in the band noticed as well.

Not that the fretless isn't amazing, but there is something about my main bass.

Soooo I'm thinking of replacing my Bart CB's with Aggie DCB's, while keeping the Bart pre. I like the pre's mid-frequencies better than the OBP's, but looking for a less-compressed sound from the pickups. I don't think the Bart's are that compressed, and I've heard that the Aggie's are more open-sounding and clearer....

That's a very accurate description. You won't be disappointed.

I had wanted to replace my Roscoe spec Barts with DCBs at one time. I ran across some Big Singles in the classifieds that were out of a Roscoe and tried them out. WOW! Just the sound I had been looking for out of my SKB-3005. Very open and aggressive sounding.

Yes indeed. I replaced the Bart humcancelling J pickups in my Century Std. with some Nordstrands. Night and day. Plus, exposed polepieces look cooler. :bassist:

Based on what I've read, I think you'd be better suited to go with the Big Splits rather than Fat Stacks if you're wanting to get closer to the tone of the Big Singles. With that, I don't have any personal experience with the Fat Stacks - just what I've read (they're also supposed to be a lower output FWIW). I did have a Big Split put in a Fender P5 to make it a PJ and the Big Split is a pretty single-coilish, open sounding pickup in that bass, very close to a Big Single IMO. So, if it were me, I'd get Big Splits if trying to get a Big Single tone with the benefits of hum-cancelling.

Also, for what it's worth (and I wasn't intentionally trying to sway you away from the DCB option), since a Nordstrand set would have to be custom made for the Roscoe string spacing and pickup size, the Big Split I ordered also had to be custom made for Fender's string spacing. Turn around time was only a week in my case.

I've had them, they don't really sound like single coils, more midrangy to my ear. I really liked 'em however. You can also look at the Big Splits from Nordstrand, they sound a bit more "single coily" to my ears, but are hum-free. In either event, you will need to custom order them to fit a Roscoe, but they have all of the necessary info to do that as long as you let them know what you're putting them in.

Gard, my mistake, I emailed him on Big Splits, not Singles. They sound like they have more of that Spector roar to them (heard a sound test vs Barts). Maybe EMG's would be more suitable for that? I do want more of that Spector sound, just for more growl, but my Roscoe is built much better, imo...flatter neck w/ no ski jumps!
