Configuration question here. I like the sound of Nordstrand dual blade neos and a nice feature with them is that they can be switched to single coil mode, so the flip of a switch could provide two distinct and useful voicings. I've seen jazz pickups in several locations on different Roscoes so my question is, if the dual blade neos were mounted in the traditional Roscoe position which coil on each pickup would be best to use for single coil mode?
You can choose on those Nordstrand dual blades which single coil is activated in single coil mode??? Whoa! I would have figured it's always a specific single coil in them that is used.
The Nordstrand Dual Blades are a bit different in that the two coils and blade configurations are different and they are only designed to be split one way (outer coils in the default configuration). It was however discussed and confirmed by Carey in another thread that you could flip the pickup in the rout to get the other configuration.
When I had the regular Nord dual coils in my SKB I preferred the inner bridge coil and outer neck coil. The outer bridge was too thin for me and much lower output.
I remember reading the same thing, so if you know the desired single coil locations just orient the pickups properly in the rout to get it.
Inner bridge makes sense. You want some bite but too close to the bridge takes all the meat away and makes it sound thin and weak. Outer neck would provide some separation between the single coils and give it some roundness. I bet that would sound good.

Looks like I'm getting closer to being in the family.
So here am I, just about the most non-metal guy I know, got hisself hooked up with a prog metal band.
Audition was last night - played the fretless SKB 3006 with FlexSteels and it killed.
Didn't even unpack the B7K. Dialed up a bit of grit on the GK MB500Fusion and fit right in with a pair of effect-laden extended-range (7 & 8-string) guitars.
Interesting mix of projects - blues, bluegrass, prog metal...

Well, should be an interesting morning. I've decided I am going to take the plunge and attempt to use only my Roscoe fretless at church this morning. It will give me a chance to see how badly I stink at fretless! No pressure, only about 2200 people watching.

Well - fretless report...
Nobody even noticed I was playing fretless during rehearsal and did not notice any problems. During the service, no panicked switch to fretted, one song with a couple of clams and a short (2-bar) section with some intonation problems. On the other hand, from both the Minister of Music and the Sound Lady (who has really good ears and is very easy to work with) - "your bass was MASSIVE today, keep it up." And they liked the fretless sound with the songs we did. I actually felt more free on the fretless and did a bunch more fills than usual.
Next Sunday is our Patriotic Service and I'm back to fretted - there are several songs that really need a fretted bass. We'll see about the next time I play but I suspect I'll be back on fretless.

One old-school Country song that just sounds better to me on fretted but the real reason is that I'm having trouble playing Mellencamp's ROCK in the USA up to speed on a fretless!

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
Played 5 shows this past weekend, from Thur-Sun, and my tobacco-burst SKB just killed it (maple one's getting a fret job). I'm running the simplest rig, too. SKB-->Zoom MS60B-->Radial JDI...that's it...sounded IMMENSE. The Zoom sounds just like my GK 1001RB-II did. I love technology.

There are a few used Roscoe's on Guitar Center's used site, and I inquired about one that didn't have pictures or a full description. It's a 5 string Century Plus, and I'm looking for a 4 string but I wanted to share the pics they sent of this great looking bass. It's in the Wilmington, DE store but of course can be shipped.

Not an LE, but it is holly topped. The Bajos Exclusivos LE's have matching headstocks and JJ not JM pickups.
