Roscoe Club

... and the ramp is headed to PA.
Arrived and installed, thank you !
I'll get a picture posted one of these days - my primary desktop melted down and I'm still working on recovery strategies...
I've put it on the fretless, temporarily, but it may wind up on the fretted 3007 since I don't do much popping on the fretless...

Glad it arrived OK!

That's proof that even USPS can't damage a piece of Diamondwood!:D

Hi, I would like to ask if anyone has a Roscoe Demeter preamp schematics. I know I have seen it before in this thread but the link on Pg52 by JOME77 is dead. Appreciate the kind help to point me to the right direction please. Thank you!
The Blue Pickup wire could be Green depending when it was built.

But man do those preamps sound good in a Roscoe! :bassist:

That they do! I had a set back on my LG, there was a sand through on the color before the clear is applied, so instead of getting it on Friday it is supposed to be Tuesday at the latest. I have the ACG Filter I am installing, if for some reason I don't like it, a Demeter will most likely be the replacement but I may go passive with the DCB pickups.

So, with Demeter, is it a growlier, modern tone (like the Spector Haz), or an EMG'ish clean tone? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Demeter doesn't seem to have a vintage vibe....

Demeter = Glassy highs, Smooth and musical mids and smooth bass

Not nearly as much cut/boost in each band but everything is usable. IMO of course.:)

Here's a soundclip I made using my Roscoe (with Demeter) that may give you an idea of the sound. The slap is very untypical of a Roscoe with Roscoe Barts (or CB's for that matter). IMO of course.

I'm also curious about installing a new preamp, since my Audere pre doesn't have a passive setting, but I'm too much of a gear newbie to really have a sense of the sounds of the different models/brands. Above is a pretty good description (from what I can tell) of the Demeter, as well as interesting characterizations of EMGs and the Spector Haz. Anyone want to break down the other more prominent ones, especially ones paired with Roscoes?

Also, any tips on a preamp that I can replace the Audere with without having too much done to the bass (i.e. drilling new holes in the top and the like) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm partial to the Aguilar OBP-3. I have it in all three of my Roscoes. When set flat it is neutral but gets very aggressive once you start twisting knobs. A little goes a looooong way.

The Bart is a similar sound but, less aggressive in the freq ranges. Also, the mid points are voiced differently. Overall, it is a nice, smooth pre and the classic Roscoe sound.

What's that color? Is the body one piece maple?
It is one piece maple and the colour is called Aqua. Full specs are:

• Solid 5A Flame maple body
• Three piece Maple/Purpleheart wedge neck with contrasting stringers
• Fingerboard - Spalted Purpleheart
• Diamondwood nut
• 35" Scale
• Aguilar 3-band pre amp with volume, pan, treble/bass stack, mid/mid freq select push/pull (250/800hz)
• Aguilar DCB pickups Pickups
• Black ultralight Hipshot tuners
• Black Hipshot A style bridge in Aluminium

Another one of my favorite preamps in a Roscoe is the John East U-Retro. It sounded really good with the Roscoe Barts as it added some modern tone to the compressed sound of these pickups. It was similar to the Demeter but with more mid growl as you could set the frequency and adjust the boost. The bass is boost only but that was fine for me as I always set the Demeter at 1 o'clock so boost only worked for me. I had the passive tone knob on mine which once you got the preamp set the passive tone knob was the one I used the most to fine tune.

Yeah, the Audere is a bit to polite sounding to my ears. I had it in 3 different Roscoe's and only liked it in one of them (solid maple). I just ordered an East Uni-Pre so I'll let you know how it sounds in a Roscoe. It performs the pickup blending in the active mode (acts more like a 2 channel mixer) so I'm hoping that it gives me more nice subtle blends between the bridge and neck p/u. It also has a 3-band (bass/mid/treble) with a sweepable mid control and passive tone control (active/passive mode too of course). I'm hoping that the East pre will impress me but the worst case is I put the Demeter back in (which seems to always happen! :))
