Roscoe Club

Gard or anyone,

Do you have any information about this Roscoe? Really thinking of pulling the trigger. ROSCOE SKB 3005 5-string Bass

Looks like someone got it already (you?)....nice bass, I actually remember that one, was made for stock at Blueberry Hill Bass. It looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet a few times - but that's a GOOD sign, whoever had it PLAYED it. We like that. :bassist:

If it was you and you have any questions, just let me know via PM and I'll be happy to answer everything I can.

I didn't get it. I was willing to go $1200, maybe $1300. I got out bid.

Just sitin' here on the eve of Christmas Eve enjoying some fretless Roscoe goodness.

Wanted to wish all you Roscoeheads a wonderful holiday.

Treasure the season, watch some football, eat more than you need to, spoil the grandkids then give'em back, give more than you get, enjoy some Roscoe goodness, speak only when you need to, and smile so people wonder what you've been up to. That's my recipe anyway.

Merry Christmas

After looking the bass over I think you probably should be thankful! That bass is a me

Man! That had to take a while! Is it all inlay (and if so what?) or is it painted or silkscreen?

My Roscoe fretless 6 gets 99% of my attention, but on this particular day, one of my projects is working up a song with a funky edge, so I've pulled out the fretted 3007 to practice a bit of slap-n-pop.

A good plan. I can pass on the football and as for grandkids, we seem to have skipped an essential waypoint (no kids) so that part is right out. I'm good with the rest.

That's a really clean looking fiver there JOME. CONGRADULATIONS. I know you've done a stem to stern set-up by now so does it play as sweet as it looks?
Hey Johnny!

You are correct, I have totally gone over the bass. It definitely has my seal of approval!:)

I don't know if it's the larger mahogany SKB body, the Bosse top or the purpleheart finger board (or maybe the combination of all 3?) but this one has some special growl! I did a little research on the Bosse wood and it's typically grown in west and central Africa and has some of the same tonal characteristics as mahogany (sure looks more like maple though;at least when it's figured). It has a Janka hardness Rating of 2600 (that's hard! ). As a reference, African Mahogany is 830.

You'll have to slide by during the holidays to check it out (and bring that chocolate walnut Roscoe with you to do an A/B comparison). :bassist:

Ok, ok ........ since you insist, just one more pic!:D

P.S. Notice that chessey plastic concentric knob is gone! Why do you guys still do that Gard? :)

I had a little down time after all the family left Christmas evening. It was such a wonderful day with all the kids home and all little grand kids running around laughing and playing. Now it was so quiet! And I mean really quiet!!! :)
I found myself doodling out the melody to Silent Night (on my Roscoe) and decided to record a quick and simple all bass version of the the song. Definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs.
Very simple and nothing fancy at all.

Merry Christmas to all!

New to the club! :smug:

I traded a fantastic custom jazz bass for it, and am so glad that I did. I actually received it a few weeks back, but wanted to give it a test drive at church before making a decision. Needless to say, it passed with flying colors. Hands down, this has been the best playing and sounding bass for me and my style. It's a 2005 SKB with Madrone burl over Spanish cedar, Bart/Bart elecs, and a BE maple fretboard. As has already been stated (I'm just reinforcing), incredibly tight and clear B-string, and evenness between all the strings...more than any other bass I've owned. I'm not sure if this is a Roscoe thing, or if this particular combination just worked out perfectly for me. Sure there are a few build quality niggles, but overall, I love it; and if I decide to move this one, I doubt it would be for anything other than another Roscoe--at this point :bassist:

You are hooked. There is no better B string. No better neck. I have a pair - fretted and fretless - and I can't find a better bass. The only bass I long for a little is my old Sadowsky MV4. I may try to do one more build or trade my fretless for a Roscoe "jazz" bass.
