Roscoe Club

Pick up a Roscoe Century Signature earlier today, my first Roscoe :)

Finally joining this Roscoe family, after lusting for one for many years. This fretless plays like a dream- currently strung as a tenor (high C) and hasn't left my hands in nearly a week! It is late 90s, I asked Gard about it and he said it was from before they kept good records- it is an LG3005, figured maple top, ebony board (most likely) with 18v barts.

Stunning. The ebony looks perfect.

Nothing plays like a Roscoe fretless. I have debated selling mine as I really want a certain Roscoe 6 but, even though I don't really "need" it (I enjoy using it at church and jazz fill in gigs - which are few and far between) I can't quite bring myself to sell it as it is so nice.

Beautiful bass.

I have to agree. My fretless 5 (which I don't use NEARLY enough) is probably the finest bass neck I've ever experienced.

I just got back from a four-day trip which included a Greensboro layover. So, I got to spend the afternoon with Gard at Roscoe World Headquarters and it was a pleasure meeting everyone including the man himself. For every Roscoehead out there this place is our Graceland. I was hot, sweaty and covered in sawdust; I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to get back there next week.

While I was there I couldn't resist the wood pile. I mean, who could? The shear volume of "Dear lord that's awesome" flame maple alone is amazing.

After going through just about all of it I picked out two tops: a flame maple top that shimmers so much it doesn't need finishing and a quilt myrtle that no photograph can justify. The flame maple is for a super secret hush hush black ops project that not even the NSA knows about.

The myrtle is for a Century 3006 fretless to be built after the first project. I originally wanted a BEM Dymondwood board and really didn't care what kind of top I went with. But, then after finding this myrtle we decided that black Dymondwood would be best. The BEM would just clash way too much.

I also had the idea of making this bass 100% American made (or grown). The only problem I'm running into with this is I really want a wenge wedge neck. This idea might need to be modified. Any ideas?

But, anyway, here's the myrtle on top of the wood pile:

Wow!! I hesitated to pull the trigger on a myrtle top/ebony board fretless on TB a couple years back...ended up with a real nice LG fretless, but have never forgotten that myrtle and still, to this day, watch for it to reappear ;)

hi Roscoe club

i have a cuestion for you... what is the width nut in 4 string? and is the same in all necks, standard, custom and signature?

thanks a lot!

The measurement at the nut is 1.5", unless someone specifies a different width on a Custom or Signature (the Standard/Standard Plus can't be altered), so the 4 string is set up to feel just like a J bass, unless otherwise requested.

I recently tried a few Roscoes at BassClubChicago. I was primarily going to try this one with the new Aguilar DCB pickups.

Monkey pod/ash body, maple/maple neck. Aguilar DCB/Bart pre.
I compared it to my Talkbass aquired Century

Bubinga/ash body. Ebony/maple neck. Roscoe Barts/Demeter pre.
There was not a great difference between the 2. I'm sure its due to the Demeter pre and ebony board on mine (this is a very SPECIAL bass).
But I was totally surprised when I tried this one.

Spalt maple/mahogany body. Purpleheart/maple neck. Aguilar split jazz/Bart pre. My woods of choice have always been ash bodies and maple boards, except for jazz basses where I prefered alder bodies, but this mahogany bodied bass blew me away. This has totally altered my theory on wood!
