I recently tried a few Roscoes at BassClubChicago. I was primarily going to try this one with the new Aguilar DCB pickups.Monkey pod/ash body, maple/maple neck. Aguilar DCB/Bart pre.![]()
I compared it to my Talkbass aquired CenturyBubinga/ash body. Ebony/maple neck. Roscoe Barts/Demeter pre.![]()
There was not a great difference between the 2. I'm sure its due to the Demeter pre and ebony board on mine (this is a very SPECIAL bass).
But I was totally surprised when I tried this one.Spalt maple/mahogany body. Purpleheart/maple neck. Aguilar split jazz/Bart pre. My woods of choice have always been ash bodies and maple boards, except for jazz basses where I prefered alder bodies, but this mahogany bodied bass blew me away. This has totally altered my theory on wood!![]()
All beautiful basses. I guess my only comment would be to not assume the mahogany body was the primary driver of the tone you dug on that last bass, given the very different pickups, and IMO, more importantly, the very different pickup placement.
