Roscoe Club

Well I finally made it to Bass Central this week while I was at Disney with the family. I got to play some really nice basses (a couple Roscoes, MTD 635 and a Pedulla Penta Buzz). Much smaller place than I envisioned but they had some really nice basses.

The really good news. I didn't leave with any new GAS! Just a Zon gig bag ........:)

When I visited BC, they showed me the warehouse which seemed much bigger than the show floor. I was able to play an MTD 535, Sadowsky NY 5 and a Roscoe Century 5. They wanted me to fill out a credit app before they would allow me to play the $19,000 Alembic Series 1 hanging on the wall. :sour:

Congrats! It really is worth the trip. It may seem small but when you consider the size of the bass section in your average music store, it's actually huge!

I've been to BC three times. 2 visits have resulted in bass purchases!

For real? A credit application? You're kidding of course ..... Right?

Grasshopper did ask me to pull out my shirt tail (to cover my belt buckle) before playing a Pedulla Penta Buzz bass. Funny thing is he didn't ask me to do that when I played the new Roscoe and MTD 635 .... Maybe because I just took them off the stands without asking ......:D

Really nice guys though. I've dealt with Grasshopper several times in the past. Seemed like a really nice guy. Big Steelers fan!

No, just kidding about the application but they did say something to, if you are not seriously considering purchasing the bass they rather it not be handled. I had no problem with the policy, one ding or scratch could be an expensive one.

I do remember them asking for me to pull out my shirt tail which I normally do anyway.

I bass sat a friends basses when he was in Korea for 9 months, one of those being a Penta Buzz, just an amazing sounding and playing bass.

It's still worth the trip. The spalted maple topped Roscoe 3006 that they have in is a really nice playing, sounding and looking Roscoe! They also had a really nice LG-3005 walnut topped Roscoe. Very classy looking.

And of course MTD's, Fodera, Exotic, Elrick and a few other off brands. :D

Joe,

Thanks for the heads up
Always fun to window shop some off brands!!
but I am looking forward at some point to check out the new line

I got a chance on Sunday to play on the 4 Roscoe Classic and Custom Classic basses that went to the NAMM show. What a treat! They all sounded great, but the two PJ basses really knocked me out.

Active or passive, 4-string or 5-string - the basses sounded really, really good. And if distressed is your thing, they do a nice job with that, too. It was also cool to see the new Roscoe shop in Greensboro (it's yuge!) and to hear how they do the distressing.

I can't wait until a few sales happen and folks start giving their own reviews of these basses. I'm anxious to hear what actual end users think after some gig experience.

Put a deposit down to get my headless Century Standard Plus 5 going! Stoked. I had permission from the boss to blow it out on a Custom or Signature, but the Standard really gives me everything I need.
Gonna head to Greensboro next month to pick out a top and get my fretted Century 5 Plek'd. When the headless is done, I'll go pick it up and get my fretless Century Plek'd. Exciting stuff!

The Standard Plus is - I think - the best balance of bang for the buck. All the build quality and care of the Custom/Signature - and a nice top - without the extra cost. If you don't NEED the fancy carved top, you can't go wrong. Both my basses are Standard Plus. I've had Customs but honestly, I prefer the Standard Plus.

What did you decide on for the rest of the specs?
