My SKB Custom 6 arrived today... the UPS guy was officially my favorite person of the day.
Still getting to know my way around it, but hell, I love this sucker. Good stuff.
No pics no Roscoe!
Enjoy it!

How many of you have been through the phase of wanting a 6 string and then never having the time to use it to its full potential once you get it? I am having one of those thoughts of trading my 6 string Roscoe for another 5 String Roscoe which would get more playing time in my position.
It's like you are inside my head. I have an amazing Roscoe Century Standard Plus 6J. It was my first made-for-me Roscoe. I sold it after a while as I didn't full use it. I bought it back. I sold it again. I bought it back a few months ago. It seems like fate. I LOVE the tone and it feels like it's faster than my Roscoe 5 - the 2nd made-for-me Roscoe.
I play at church, and it's a great bass for church. I occasionally use the C string but not often. Back when I did jazz combo stuff and soloed I used it more. I thought maybe I'd try some recording, solo bass, looping stuff but that hasn't happened as I don't have a lot of time. I think about selling it and getting a Roscoe Classic Custom "Geddy Lee Jazz" but as patient and understanding as she is, I think my wife would kill me if I bought, or sold and bought, another bass.
For now I'm holding on to it as it's amazing, but I wish I had a gig that made full use of this amazing instrument.
That is exactly my issue so it does not get into the rotation.
I make myself play both of them. Until I can really decide which way to go I'm going to play both. I usually alternate. I'm taking the 5 again tomorrow as I have different strings on it and want to hear gen through the good system.
1st world problem - which hand made Roscoe do I play today?
I might throw it on the classifieds for a Century or SKB fiver. I have 2 LGs that I love. Or just keep it. Aaaaah. First world problems!!!It's like you are inside my head. Is there some kind of race I don't know about ?How many of you have been through the phase of wanting a 6 string and then never having the time to use it to its full potential once you get it?
Really? They give you grief for having strings you don't play?...the Church I worship at is not into the 6 string thang.
I play at a very large church with 15 campuses that tries to maintain a unity to which anyone person could go to either campus and get the same style of worship. Now all campuses are slightly different and at my campus, I could get away with it, but it's not needed. We have two electrics, one acoustic, keys, pad and Abilton kicking. I only bring it out if we take a song in which is normally in a guy key and we kick it up a notch to a girl key especially if there is a bass riff.Is there some kind of race I don't know about ?
I bought my Roscoe 6 because I wanted an instrument I could grow into and never outgrow.
I don't solo much and rarely get up onto the C. But I am learning and growing. Until I am more proficient with soloing into the upper register, I am gaining proficiency by virtue of playing the same bass every day, That string is always there, ready for me.
The fretted 7, OTOH, is definitely a 'some day' instrument as I re-teach my fingers chord shapes for bass rather than guitar (30-ish years of shapes to unlearn...). But that's what I bought it for.

XL's sound great on all my basses. I have a Zon Sonus 5 that came to me with High Beams. Sounded lousy to me. I put XL's on it and it sounds wonderful. I tried TI Flats on one of my Roscoe basses. Sounded great. Put XL's back on it and it sounds even better!
Tried the SunBeams on My Roscoe LG.. terrible.. Fodera strings and the ones that came with the bass initially sounded better.. I must try these XL's now..
but I know the answer is LaBella strings.. hehe..
