Roscoe Club

Because the guys at Roscoe are good at keeping their Facebook up to date:

Century Standard Plus 4PJ Serial #H062 Quilt Maple top, Swamp Ash body, Natural Oil finish, Aguilar 4P-60 neck & 4J-HC bridge pickups, Aguilar OBP-3 preamp w/active-passive switching & passive tone control (this is a one-of-a-kind option, it will not be offered again on this model!), 3-piece Maple neck, Pau Ferro fingerboard, Graphite nut, Chrome hardware.

Though I haven't messed with an Aguilar passive tone, passive controls also will impact the active. My East Uni-pre has a passive tone control but also works in active. I use it more than than the other controls. Once I dial in the treble, mid and bass, I very seldom touch them again but instead I use the passive tone to dial in the sweet spots.

Awesome! If all goes well, it will be here on Wednesday. To confirm, does the tone knob only work when the bass is passive or does it impact the active tone?

If not, do you think you would be able to wire it that way to get a Mike Pope pre-amp type of impact?

I am already planning my second Classic which will be in the P bass configuration. I will go Alder body and Sunburst Finish, not sure of the fingerboard wood yet since my Custom Classic J has Pau Ferro, I may go Maple on the P. It will take a while to prepare Mrs. Crash so I am looking into the future on the P. :D

I am more likely to sell/trade one of my LG 3005 Customs since I have two especially with one of these available in my color and maple neck (Roscoe Classic Jazz 5 Bass - Tobacco Sunburst, Maple.)

WOW!

Roscoe went above and beyond in the creation of this bass!

  1. Notice the extra knob. This tone knob takes this bass from a modern sound to a vintage tone.
  2. Active or Passive. With the tone knob I can get everything from Jamerson to Jaco, Wooten to who-ever
  3. Still has the mid shift push pull on the tone knob
  4. Drop D - de-tuner on the E string
  5. OBP-3 Pre-amp (usually the PJs have the OBP-1)
I sold my LG-3000 and my Century Standard 5 to fund my Fodera, but I always knew I would be back to get another Roscoe. As much as I loved those basses... this one is a step above IMHO.

Way to go guys!

Very nice! That is my kinda bass!

So I'm sitting in Abu Dhabi airport about to board a long long flight.. I took off the strings of my Roscoe LG.. is that ok for a 25+ hour flight?? Do I need to loosen the Truss rod or anything? basically My bass will have no tension/strings on it for over 30 hours.. that's fine right?

I can't explain why right now I'm too tired and at the airport..

I read in this thread that there was no need to take the strings off the instrument. My guess is that if you had to, I would probably consider loosening the truss rod.. but I am no luthier.

NO! Leave the strings on and leave your bass tuned to pitch or else leave it how it is normally tuned! That's how basses are shipped out from the manufacturer.

Never. Ever. EVER. Do that.

Typically you won't harm anything, but first, there is no reason to do so. None at all. No matter what "they" say - because "they" are always someone that does not build or maintain musical instruments.

The worst that could happen is a permanent backbow being induced into the neck - highly unlikely with a Roscoe (multiple laminate neck, graphite reinforcement), but possible. Biggest thing is that you have now created a major headache when you restring the instrument. The setup will be all whacked out, and may take a few tweeks over a few days to get back to "correct" now.

As Joel (who also happens to fly commercial aircraft for a living, so he kinda has insight as well ;) ) pointed out - we ship them at tension, and in tune. So does every other builder in the known universe. If there were some reason not to, why would we do that? :)

Again, you almost certainly did no real harm to the neck, but you're going to be twiddling for a bit before it feels like it did before you did that. Get some sleep, you'll be fine. ;)

NBD for me this Friday!

I almost fell out of my chair at work when I saw it this afternoon!

Awesome looking Roscoe! That's got to be one of the coolest looking buckeye tops that I've ever seen! I love what's going on at the end of the neck (the book-matched wavy lines ...)!
Must be one of those Rocket Music specials (with the matching head stock)..... :bassist:

Congrats! :)

Thanks!
Yes, it's a Rocket Music Limited Edition!
I agree, I have not seen another Buckeye top like that!
I'm planning on playing it this Sunday at the church where I play!
I'll post a review by next week.
