As great a deal as the jazz 4 is, I think I’d be sorry it wasn’t a 5. I was just playing and I really use my B sting. I did find that pulling up my mid knob and slightly bumping it just a tad while panning to the neck pup yielded a decent P bass tone. Back to center and keeping the mid bump was a nice “modern” tone. I’ll give it a try at church and rehearsal this weekend.

That Century P/J 5 in the Ckassifieds is really what I should get. Familiar neck, active/passive P/J 5, all the things, but not $1,500...

Ray, I could be wrong but it’s my understanding that every instrument Plek’d is logged into the Plek data base and can be accessed by any Plek machine via the Internet. If that’s the case they just pull up the file based on your serial number and they have a record of every adjustment made to your instrument.

The Righteous Guitars in Roswell (near Atlanta) only sells guitars. I'll need to call them tomorrow to see if they also work on basses. I suspect the Plek machine wouldn't care, but maybe it might require programming for basses.

So now the government is tracking us via our Plek'd guitars???? What in the world!?!?!?!

I’m told it’s so that any Plek machine you have your instrument adjusted on will have records of all past scans and adjustments made. I also believe that some of the fee you pay to have your instrument Plek’d is paid to Plek. They apparently log on quite frequently to help in complex jobs. They setup the Plek that planed off my Diamondwood finger board.

For those that have a Roscoe with a P-pickup (I’m thinking the 24fret models, not the ones that look more like Fenders), is anyone playing heavier rock with it? How does it compare with a P-bass when run through some drive pedals or into a slightly overdriven amp?

How do the neck profiles on the 24-fret 4-strings compare with Fender (I’m thinking Americans Standard), G&L, and/or Lull?

@JES, I can't help much in this area except to offer my take-away from limited exposure to Fender neck profiles, they are chunkier than Roscoe necks.
But soon there will be others to reply to your questions!!

Hey guys, NBD finally came for me: LG 3005. It is stunningly gorgeous, IMO. The LG body works well with me, and at a medium weight 9lbs 7oz, it actually balances sitting down as well. After a string change to Elixir stainless and a setup, it's still a very dark sound with the Roscoe dual coils compared to what I'm used to. I'll try it in performance before I do my single coil mod to it.

As a bonus, those who remember my wine and bass room construction story get to see a fresh picture! Due to my wife and I being teachers, we are low on wine already.

I'm glad you finally got it in your posession. It's definitely a looker for sure. The Roscoe Bart's are definitely on the warmer side but they sound good in a mix. I prefer the Aggie DCB's or Nordstrand DC pickups myself but they are the best Barts I've played in all my basses.

Played some more today with the mids boosted a little (mid knob pulled up) and I’m liking what I hear. The D’Addario nickel 170’s with the 130 B string are also winning me over more every day.

Think I’ll stick with his for awhile, see how it goes for a few weeks. Was able to get it to sound like the bass in “Goodbye Earl” (has to be a P) and then close to the tone (with a pick and palm muting) on “Feel It Still”. We cover a lot of ground in the cover band.

I can’t remember the pre in your other Roscoe’s but if after gigging with the bass you still think it’s to dark order a stock Demeter pre. I had a similar issue with a couple Roscoe’s and the Demeter totally transformed those basses. Super easy install too (no switch; but you will need to combine the bass and treble with a concentric pot).

Bass Central? Nice one! Looks like the one on their site. I considered that one but decided on a custom 34 inch scale build.

Yes, this was NOS at Bass Central. I'm actually barely the 2nd owner. The guy that bought it had it sent to Roscoe to have it PLEK'd and have a Hipshot Detuner installed on the B string (love it). Unfortunately, while the work was being done, some serious health issues arose which forced him to sell. Case of a 'bad thing happening to good people'.

MBD!! (modified bass day) - Okay, so my initial reaction/thought was 'why didn't I think to ask for black toggles switches?'! I guess if it bothers me I can at least change them out.

But I'm digging the various tones I can now get out of this bass! I really need to get it in a gig situation to really explore its capabilities and hone in on what I like and what I don't like settings.
