My main bass. I have a G&L JB-2 strung with flats that was a gift that I use for jazz and have been using as a “Pino” for the new trio (basicaly a John Mayer cover trio) but the Roscoe P at Rocket Music keeps tempting me. I don’t know why it’s still there.Good thing I only play Roscoe basses!

Part of me wants to believe that. I haven’t had much luck with P basses or 4 strings. But lately, listening to and now playing stuff like John Mayer, Ray Lamontagne, Jack Johnson, and other “Pino” type stuff, the flats and the P thing is more tempting. It doesn’t work on my Century at all. The feel isn’t there. The flats aren’t there. Just not the right vibe.Because it's waiting for you...

Part of me has trouble spending $2,500 on a P bass as it’s just a passive P bass. They can be had for 1/5 that price, but...I have been so happy with all the Roscoe basses I’ve owned - some more than once - that I just don’t know what to do. There’s a really nice F#^~^r Select at a local shop for $1,350 that plays and sounds like a P bass. But...I feel like I’m cheating on Keith and Gray as they’ve helped me through many Roscoe builds and purchases over the last 6 ir so years.
Of the two, I wouldn't be able to tell which one is which but on the other hand, I can say that I prefer the sound of the strings on Mellisa II. It sounds fuller and punchier and those might be the Cobalt flats.Just kidding Ray! I'm sure that James will turn it around in a timely manner.
Back to flat wounds on a Roscoe ........
I installed the TI Jazz Flats on the Roscoe STD JB and did an A/B test on playing over the same tune, the ABB's song Mellisa. I always like the sound of the bass on that tune and thought that it would be a good one to record. The bass is pretty hot in the mix but I wanted to be able to hear the sound of the strings.
There wasn't as much difference as I would have thought (originally) but IMO one does have a bit more of a low end muted sound. Not totally sure which I prefer though.
See if you can guess which recording is the EB Cobalt flats and which is the TI Jazz Flats and let me know which one you prefer (and your opinion might be "install the Nickel RW's ").
I thought you were a lefty but when I looked at the writing on your sweatshirt I realized that it wasn't the case... You tried to fool us or what?

Come on Joe, you've never heard of 50 shades of Gray?Dang Steve! Did you have too much caffeine last night?
And I know who Keith is but who the heck is Gray?

What is the scale length of a Roscoe SKB 6 string? 35 or 36”?
Brady Muckelroy is a fb connection of mine who is a great luthier here in Texas and he swears by Curt Mangan strings. I had never heard of them until he said he puts them on the basses he buildsI've used Curt Mangan strings for the last year along with my Pure Blues. Very good strings made right here in the US. I had a artist that used them and Warrior basses told me about them.

Never heard of Curt Mangan strings until they were mentioned here in the Roscoe thread. I guess that I'll have to try a set on one of my basses (just in case they are the "holy Grail" of bass strings).
They look to be almost double in price for what I pay for Roscoe Daddario's so they'll have to be significantly better to sway me.
