I ordered some Hipshot Ultralites for my Warwick Thumb and decided to order a set for my SKB as well. Can I expect any disadvantages tone-wise on the Roscoe?

That really stinks. I hope you were still able to play. Having an amp fail right before a gig really blows... having experienced that myself. Even with a backup amp, I had a terrible time concentrating.

Fortunately, the amp did the swan dive as I was packing after the gig. I guess the floor being concrete didn't help to cushion the short fall. When I got it home and took it out of the obviously non-protective, protective bag, I tilted the unit around and heard something was loose inside. So, after removing the amp from the cabinet and opening the chassis I found two white plastic nuts that popped off the board's mounting and this (below) little metallic piece. I was able to locate where on the board the two of 6 white plastic nuts and the little piece came from, but was a bit overwhelmed that these things broke off from such short 27'' fall in a padded bag!! My guess is that the board has too much weight on it to be secured by the plastic mounting post and nuts used. Now I'm like, what else is not right with this amp from the fall.![]()

Good, let`s hope that`s the outcome. That`s why I bought them for the Thumb bass, it`s a baseball-bat-neck-diving-great-sounding Warwick! Can’t imagine that would affect the sound. Balance maybe .....
I talked to James Demeter about it and decided to ship it to him for repair as opposed to giving it to some local electronics shop here in Atlanta. He did say that using the plastic mounts was not the best thing to use but it was better than using metal. I guess! He also added that he has never heard of this happening to one of his Bass 400 amps. Lucky me, I'm the first!!![]()
Cool. Let’s see ....3 months to build up an on-board pre .... he ought to get the repair done and the amp returned by your New Year’s Eve gig!![]()
which recording is the EB Cobalt flats and which is the TI Jazz Flats
and the EB Cobalts flats are $45.00 Those two sets of strings do sound very similar. My guess would be the TI Flats are on the first recording.
So, now it's all about the feel of the strings.
Ray,
Did you gig out with the flats installed this weekend? If so, how did they sound in a mix?
So, the prior Sunday I played the MV5, which has the single coil 'J's and TI Flats on it. A lot of booming bottom! I made an iPad recording but the organ's Leslie is right next to me so it's not a very good representation of how it sat in the house mix, although even from it you can certainly hear the bass.
I always ask my wife what did the choir/music sound like and how was the bass. She told me she could hear it, but the organ was too loud!
This past Sunday I finally took the LG Buckeye Burl with Barts and D'Addario XL 170-5. From my perspective all amp volume/EQ were the same as with the MV5, however, the positive comments/reactions received from the organist, the drummer, my wife, the minister, and from the congregation was that THAT's the bass right there!! My wife said that bass was really rocking it and she could hear the bass very well, but the volume wasn't loud, and what ever I did I need to do that every Sunday!!
My take-away is that the Roscoe sits better in the house mix than the MV5. Oh, and always take a Roscoe with D'Addario to the gig!!![]()

Yep. I tried flats very briefly but went back to rounds, and then D'Addario 170's with the .130 B string. I think a Roscoe with Barts and those strings is the Roscoe sound...to me.
