If the bass had the Bart 3-band changing to the Bart CB's might be enough (to open up the sound) but his bass has the Aggie OBP-3 preamp, which IMO is much more aggressive sounding than the Bart pre.
Regardless though, since he has a Demeter preamp that he could try, I'd say go for it!:) I'm telling you, it KILLS in a Roscoe!!! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

Excellent! I just checked my used Demeter preamp. I'll need to get a wiring diagram before taking it to a tech to get the swap done.

... man there are some fine looking basses in this thread.

I've never personally performed an A/B comparison but, from what I've read, the CB pickups are described as being more open as compared to the somewhat compressed sound of the Roscoe Barts.

Personally, I've been toying with the idea of switching my Roscoe Barts for Aguilar DCBs.

Hmm...for the Roscoe Barts, throaty low mid seems accurate. Definitely not what I would call "glassy" or "open" in the highs. I've also read a comparison saying the Roscoe Barts could be thought of as more of a P-bass tone whereas the CBs would be closer to a J-bass type tone.

That totally describes my Roscoe. I have a signature model, so I assume I have the Roscoe Bart's, but bought used, so not sure, That close to the bridge pickup placement combined with that Bart low mid push, relaxed upper mids and pure pingy top end is, to my ear, the classic Roscoe tone. Love it!

Thanks! So far, I am really impressed with the fretless, even through my little Ampeg 110 combo. I will take it to rehearsal tomorrow so I can put it through its paces a little bit better.

Four is my cutoff, I think (so does my wife....). I honestly can't think of anything else I would want/need.

30 inch scale. 16.5 mm spacing.

Just played my shorty ( it's the only bass I play now) with my new mesa prodigy (ALL TUBE AT 30 lbs!) and I'm hooked on tubes now. The gig was on the second floor and I didn't even flinch carrying this thing upstairs. Not as convenient as carrying a micro head in a backpack but still not heavy for someone with back issues. Very cool amp. Best slap tone I've ever had( sorry if that brings up painful memories of the gtg Joe!. Ha) I never knew how "responsive" tube amps were.
