Roscoe Club

Why anyone would move from D'Addario EXL170 to another string brand, except for maybe Curt Mangan, I just don't understand!
I did go to DR Hi Beams for a long time. Great strings. About a year ago or so I wanted to change things up a little, so I went back to the "stock" string. I like them. They are less expensive which is nice. I may go back someday. It's nice to have a lot of choices.

They may be cheap but Roscoe has these things dialed in with their strings of choice . The Plek cuts for their gauge and it's set up with their tension . I'm not afraid to simply swap strings but it could require a set up if your strings are different ga. or tension and most likely are . I know mine did . It was the best factory setup I have ever seen . It's amazing with the LTF though . really magical bass .

I went to DR Nickel Lo-Rider strings from the EXL’s for increased string tension since my original band tunes down a step. I played with the D’Addarios for a long time, but they were just too springy at that tuning.

The DR Nickel Lo-Rider strings have been my favorite since I discovered them over 10 years ago, and I play at standard pitch. I have tried, and keep trying, different strings but still like these the best. That being said, everyone has a different favorite and that’s why we have such a great selection of products.

Close..... it was saying “Scott” not Steve lol. It’s do in todsybon big brown as well as another Roscoe Standard Century 5 I’m getting back in a trade. Gonna be a good Roscoe day.

 Congratulations, Scott!! Steve thanks you, and I do too! I was looking at that one myself (as if I needed another bass). Very Nice!

Yep. Last thing I need is another Roscoe 5 string. The one I have is just fine.
Still feel a little G.A.S. for that P bass. My wife said she'd chip in (she loves Pino's tone/playing with John Mayer) as part of my B-day/F-day gift (I can pay myself just fine) but I still don't know about a 4 string (even though EVERYONE seems to play one these days) as I seem to really use my 5 string. Still, 1st Roscoe P, lots of nice features, a nice change up from my active 5, all that.

So, here is a simple Quiz for you Fretless Lovers! Between the three listed basses (w/strings) below and using the same fretting technique, bass rig and amp EQ;
(1) Which bass has more MWAH?
(2) Which bass tone comes closer to an EUB?
(3) Which bass has less MWAH?
(4) Which bass tone is furthest from an EUB?

- Zon Sonus TJ 5 (Composite Neck, Phenowood Fingerboard w/La Bella 760N-B Flats)
- Roscoe Century Standard 5 (Maple Neck, Diamondwood Fingerboard w/TI Jazz Flats)
- Rob Allen (Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard w/La Bella 760N-B Flats)

I'm convinced that G.A.S. is just a by-product of spending more than 2 minutes per day in Talkbass!!
Yep. And I haven't bought a bass for a long time. I miss the "Out for Delivery" messages and tracking. I've been very good for a long time, paying off debt, which will be done Friday. Debt free except for the house and truck...and enough "leftover" to make a respectable offer to Greg.

Oh YES!!!! Another brain stimulant!!!!

But paying off debt/tearing up charge cards and seeing more money coming in than going out is the best feeling of all!!!!

It's awesome for sure. It's taken 5 years of being really focused and disciplined, but that was 1/2 the time and many thousands less in interest if I wouldn't have taken the steps I did. It helps to have the ability to use your home (Home Equity Line Of Credit) to get a greatly reduced interest rate. Many people online would be surprised to hear that I have been off the bass merry-go-round and taken care of business like a real responsible adult.

I only buy things I can pay for with cash. Wish I would have made this decision years ago, but you have live and deal with the decisions you make. I feel much better about where I am now than I have for decades really.

I still G.A.S. for a couple things now and again...

I'm not convinced about going back to a 4. My Country band is on hiatus due to severe singer health issues. I have recently been asked about reforming the semi-hard band I was in a decade ago (a true coincidence). Despite having 2 quality 4s, I'm sticking with my 5s, even though a 5 is only needed in a couple of songs.

Still, SteveC, you are in a good position to get one, and I truly believe in having a high quality backup.

This is my situation as well. There are a couple songs every night where I use my B string. There is one song (Uptown Funk) where I NEED my B string. There are many songs - like most of the rest - that would work well with a P bass, but no one is complaining about my sound now so if it ain't broke, right?

I don't have a "quality" back up. I do have a G&L JB-2 (Tribute) that would work fine in a pinch, and is a nice bass for what it is, but obviously it's not the calibre of my Roscoe.
