Roscoe Club

Anyone have luck with pedalboards, thinking of going pretty simple, like David Curran's board (Elevation Church/Lauren Daigle). See attached pic.

I play mostly at Church with Modern Worship (Church of the Highlands) with large rooms. IEMs with Avioms.

I have a Zoom B3 that does the job if needed so far, but as a musician, I am always down for tinkering.

Anyone have a pedalboard they recommend and/or pedals/thoughts.

My thoughts are (not in order):
-Aguilar ToneHammer DI
-Creation Audio Labs Grizzley
-EHX Micro-Synth Bass
-TC Poly Tuner
-Zoom B3

Here's my simple board...

Steve to quote my father when I mentioned this. (Now he was a broadcaster and a FOH sound guy for more years than I have been alive (43 years): "I'm all for cleanliness. The less crap, the less can go wrong. But, I'm not the musician. Your FOH guys can probably handle any "quality" effects panel you plug in. As a part-time musician in a praise band will any special effects make a difference to your audience and will any specials effects have an impact on the musical message from week to week? The realistic answer is probably not."

But if you ask him about Honda Goldwing Motorcycles, he needs everything....

My 'everyday' pedal board with the essentials. I have a big pile of effects and a larger board that changes every show depending on whet's in the setlist. Maybe compression, maybe delay, maybe synth... Anyway - this is a Lowe's 1 x 6 shelf cut to length (this length fits a Mono Tick...) spray-painted black, with a pair of doorstops glued on with ShooGoo. And some Velcro from two aisles over...

The VU is always on for a little tubey drive and CabSim when I'm running direct. The AO is for heavier drive on the 3-4 songs that need it.

For fretless at church I love using a TC Electronics Hall of Fame reverb pedal. It really sounds nice in the praise songs. I tried a chorus pedal but it just seemed to work against the mwah.
For fretted I sometimes bring an Alesis Nano Compressor. It really evens out things nicely without squashing the sound (when adjusted properly). It especially sounds nice for slap style tunes.
That's it for me. Not really much into pedals (or effects in general).

Such a great bass . I'm using the P about 98% it's strong and meaty . Rolling up the J for b parts , changes and solos . It's a wonderful instrument that brings a smile to your face .

Having just rediscovered the P-bass sound (used it exclusively in the 70's) I'm playing mostly my P-Bass now. I'll blend in a little bridge J P/U on a couple tunes but for most that P-bass pickup growl is just perfect. I like it so much that I had to order a totally passive P-bass. I'll install the flats on it. They sound so good on the ABB, Steeley Dan and just about every R&B and blue tune. I just ordered a set of La Bella Deep Talking flats (from Greg @ Rocket) for the passive P-bass. Very curious to see how they compare to the TI flats, Chrome flats and Cobalt flats. One things for sure, I'm told that Don Was uses the La Bella Deep Talking flats on his P-bass and the sound that he got on the Greg Allman and Friends concert is what got me chasing that sound. I've even got a nice piece of foam ready for installation under the strings at the bridge.
Crazy! I'm just about right back where I started 45 years ago.

Not so crazy. I would bet that more than a few people go off "chasing tone" for a while and end up back to where they started or something very similar. I don't know if I'll get back to the beginning (not even sure I remember what that was) as I am quite happy with my Roscoe. I would guess that for me a return to a passive 4 string jazz bass would probably be as close as I recall to the beginning, but back in those days I went through SO MANY basses that it's hard to remember.

Awesome ! Lets us know your thoughts on those strings . Tape wounds right ?

No. They are SS flat wounds. In their words ....
"the stainless steel ribbon wire for the exterior wrap adds a subtle brightness that counteracts the inherent muddy sound associated with other flat wound bass strings on the market".

I couldn't have said it better myself!:D

NRD (New Roscoe Day) for me! Super cool 2014 Century PJ, just restrung with my favorite strings, but the D string sounds dead already, so I'll have to crack open another new set, I guess. Anyhow, cool sounds so far, even though the OBP-1 is one of my less favorite pre amps. This completes me!

That's always been one of my favorite STD Plus basses! Love that sunburst top and maple shim (looks so much like binding).
Congrats!!!
