Here's what I use, and I thought I'd comment on the Tone Hammer. In my opinion, it has three functions (preamp, gain/drive, and DI), but you cant effectively use the preamp and the drive (each footswitchable) if you are using the DI. To clarify, the drive jacks up the output volume, forcing you to turn down the master output knob to achieve a similar level. It is really a significant boost. So, if i have a gig where I need the drive/breakup sound, I bypass the pedal until I need the drive, and I match levels to the clean, bypassed output. Check out the Tone Hammer knobs in the picture; that's pretty close to my drive/breakup positions to match my bypassed signal level.
Anyhow, here is my typical board - wireless instrument receiver, tuner in a side chain, compression, octave (up and/or down), tone hammer, DI out. Also running a bluetooth page turner if I have charts/pdfs/notes. Lenovo running Mobilesheets, iPad running whatever wifi mixer needs (Midas M32Q, GLD Onemix, etc.)

It's a CP Thornton TR-5 (TR = Thumbrest)! Western Maple top & back (contour) with Nootka Cedar core; B/E Maple neck/fingerboard. Oil/Satin Urethane finish. All torrefied woods. Nordstrand Big Splits under wood covers & preamp. Ramp is removable, no screws used to attach, wood knobs. Switch is for active/passive. Harvest Leather gig bag. drool

I expect to finally get to play a Thornton at the GTG next month. If we can talk Shane into coming I could play a Devon too!
I plan on bringing one of my CP Thornton basses, Genzler rig and two Greenboy enclosures that someone can take home with them! This CP Thornton is the only active/passive.
I'd like to get to play a Devon, too! Where does Shane live?

Well, I just spent a few minutes playing this TR-5 and WOW!!! The first thing that jumped out at me were the strings. They sound great, but appeared illuminated!!! I had to pull out the package they came in, and these are DR Electric Silver Stars with a Hi-Performance Coating!!! Look out Curt Mangan strings, there might be a change a-coming!!!
My first bass with Nordstrand preamp and pups. I like the tonal spectrum and the mid-range growl that this bass is giving me with these strings and setup.
Roscoe basses are very nice and easy to play, but this bass plays better because of the contoured back that compensates for my manly six-pack and keeps the front of the bass at a better playing angle when standing.

I hope these iPhone pictures do justice to the body shape/contour. I took one shot along a decking plank lines in hope that it shows the contour better. Notice, too, the bridge platform. Very different!
I'd be torrefied too if I found out they were making a bass out of me!
I discovered trees like to be cut down and made into something else that gets to move around and hang out with people jamming and being with other woods!! Can you imagine just being in one spot your entire life time? Boring!

This bass is brilliant. Took it to my 7pc country band rehearsal last night. It sounded amazing. Love the B string and the clarity throughout. Also ran it with my new “tone magic” pedal board and it was a great combo.
